Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Sunday, 05-Mar-2023 04:08:17 JST Alex Gleason @realcaseyrollins @curtis @pixel @chjara Pleroma is significantly less resource intensive up to like 20,000 users. That makes it cheaper and faster for that use case. However when you have millions of users there is no simple way to scale it, not even by throwing money at the problem. Mastodon at least can be scaled by adding more Redis servers and web servers.

realcaseyrollins ✝️ (realcaseyrollins@social.teci.world)'s status on Sunday, 05-Mar-2023 04:08:18 JST realcaseyrollins ✝️ …but I thought @alex was going on and on about how #Mastodon scales poorly in comparison to #Pleroma, which is why it runs heavier than #Pleroma…we’ve seen #Pleroma run huge instances before without major issues as far as I could tell

Curtis Rock, SkD (curtis@social.teci.world)'s status on Sunday, 05-Mar-2023 04:08:19 JST Curtis Rock, SkD The way I understand it, Pleroma has not yet met the scalability requirements demanded by large instances like Truth Social. Mastodon supports scalability, but becomes resource intensive in the process.
There are still efforts ongoing to address the Pleroma scalability issue.

realcaseyrollins ✝️ (realcaseyrollins@social.teci.world)'s status on Sunday, 05-Mar-2023 04:08:23 JST realcaseyrollins ✝️ Yep #TruthSocial is a #Mastodon instance running #Soapbox as the FE. I think they modified the #Mastodon code to add some extra features too like quote posts.

msilvya (msilvya@gleasonator.com)'s status on Monday, 13-Mar-2023 10:33:58 JST msilvya @alex Is this the same case with Rebased? If that is the case, if you scale up and throw in a bunch of more resources, what’s the upper limit? Is there a thing like, “Even if you throw in all the resources in the world, it won’t scale beyond __“?
/Apologies for digging up an old thread.
