From what I've read, the game's pretty fucking woke/modern. It's literally just because they have a betrayal hateboner over the TERF that gets the royalties.
I have to keep reminding myself of that, or I'd have a pre-order copy sitting next to Hatred in my spite section by now.
idk man, I don't really see how the game is "woke" per say, from what I saw so far the game actually looks pretty decent but we'll see.
I like how ResetEra has already pre-emptively banned all discussion of the game from their forum despite the fact that most of them will buy it and 100% it anyways (like they did for Cyberpunk 2077 lmao)
There have been a number of discussions, various things like trans characters and it the potter franchise being woke/regressive in general.
The most I've found personally at least, is that JK doesn't appreciate men doing womanface. But that it hasn't affected the game in any meaningful sense.
No idea lmao, and this can literally just be ignored and played through normally anyways from what it looks like which is what the majority of the players will do
But it's still more woke than the average, despite all the "Waaah JK's like super bigoted against trannies waaaah". Which is why I won't touch the thing myself, at least Hatred stuck to their guns. Even if the game mostly sucked ass.
There's "non binary" and all that bullshit. Bunch of retards with daddy issues trying to get attention for how special they are, when there's nothing special about them. They end up using mental disorders, to replace merit, for their identities and self worth.
I heavily suspect they'd applaud the inclusion of trans characters, but trans themselves wouldn't play as them. They'd play as the most feminine girls, or 'cute' men. It's escapism for them.
I haven't read Chris Chan's comics through, but I'm pretty sure in all his role plays and stories he's fully female/hot/desired by other characters as a woman
@ShotgunShuffle@Sui@kroner Since they are obviously, physically, not the opposite sex, that's not what they go with. Instead they play this card of "male and femaleness are social constructs called gender". They're not "transexual", but "transgender". Gender is something, in their view, like cultural norms. So liking pink makes you a woman.
I do like a varied character generator, they've been damned addictive since Spore, I just don't see much point to trying to cater to a condition that affects <1% of humanity.
Maybe make that DLC content or some shit, so I can just vote it away with my wallet. It definitely shouldn't be a priority for the base game though, as it adds very little but a virtue signal.
@ShotgunShuffle@Sui@kroner yeah i know man when i make a character in an RPG i always make them look exactly like me down to the smallest detail that's what you do right?
This is all so idiotic and increasingly pathetic, this is what happens when you never say no to a child and pander to all his cries for attention without correction. We live in a kinder garden with adults crying bout their fucking genders in video games !
Right. And when the whiners are constantly catered to over all over demographics, you have the collapse of any media (movies/tv/comics/etc.) Reading stuff like this makes me glad I largely quit gaming 20 years ago
I never really care that much about character customization, as long as the game is fun, story is good, etc then it doesn't really matter. In some games it does make sense to have it though
If you give me sliders on a character gen, I'll fuck around with it for hours tbh. Especially if you can make abominations, like with bethesda games + mods..
But yeah, gameplay and story are my main two priorities. Unfortunately neither is very marketable these days, it's seemingly all about graphics/the message™/microtransactions etc.
I didn't do FFX, I was a little too high when I went to the 2nd hand game store and grabbed XII instead. Took me like 3 days to realize too lmao. I gave up on FF after playing XII, as they'd taken such a sharp turn away from traditional JRPG gameplay and seem to want to stick to it. It's like when dragon age geared itself towards consoles more than PC, it lost the charm for me.
Tried The Last Remnant btw? It's quite an interesting final fantasy-ish tangent, kind of like Tactics but with an emphasis on squad based skirmishes.
I agree. I loved FFX and there's zero character customization, really. I just enjoyed the story, characters, and immersion. God I miss games not having to have political subtext shit attached as a damned requirement
I was a long-term Final Fantasy fan and XII kind of killed it for me. I appreciate it more now thanks to XIV but I still can't bring myself to play it again.
I tried to play the zodiac remake thing, it was meant to be some decent content. But yeah.. It's just not the same. I'd prefer to play 7 or 9, or some of the pre PS1 games. I've been meaning to go back through Bahamut Lagoon again soon.
8 was... eh. The magic system was lame, and easily exploited with that card game. The story was a bit lacking imo too, they just didn't get much time to develop it. I did like the approach to summons though, that was pretty cool, and the Odin -> Gilgamesh part. I prefer 1 and 2, to 3-6 tbh, but (original) tactics was my overall favourite of the older ones.
7 is probably the best place to start if you haven't played any before. My personal favourite is 8 but 9 is amazing, 4 and 6 are also great. 10 good for a first timer. The rest I'd say get around to after a finishing a few others.
Never played Bahamut Lagoon or Last Remnant, I'll give them both a look out. I have definitely been recommended Bahamut Lagoon before cos I remember not being able to figure out the patch haha (I was like 10) but should hopefully be good for it now.
Advance was ok, I liked the extra content in the older games. But they are all seemingly aimed at a much younger target audience. Remakes are all too easy from what I've played/seen, I'll be sticking with the older games personally, and roms are free as a bonus lol.
Sephiroth, Kefka and Gilgamesh are my top 3 personally.
Yeah I get 8 isn't for everyone, but it was my first so I will always defend it haha. It was very flawed but it had a good basis... magic system is what it is unfortunately. I'd really like to see it get the FFVII Remake treatment, I mean it lends itself to the timeline shifting nonsense more with there being a literal time witch in it.
I enjoyed Tactics Advance but never got around to playing the original one - I've got the War of the Lions remake on my Vita, I'll maybe give it a go at some point.
Unusual preference for 1 and 2 but I can respect it. I'm definitely more of a sucker for story and a good villain - Seymour, Seifer, Kuja, Kefka, and Sephiroth are the best in the series imo.
@Sui@ShotgunShuffle@YarnSmith@salty@kroner Please don't use the word "l*me". It has an ableist origin, meaning someone having a limb body part. By using it to mean "boring" you are implying that disabled people are boring and/or useless.
It's like most sicknesses in the medical field. Once you are "cured" you don't need their services anymore so therefore they get less of your money. Keep people fucked up for longer...and you get more money
