It definitely seems like some of the "shock" at my "change" came from people who assumed I KNEW, that I had to know, that we all knew, how much cruelty & abuse was happening around me.

As if I used to be okay with it, & I suddenly stopped.

I was supposed to be a warrior FOR them. My zeal, my intelligence, & my education were all supposed to be weapons in THEIR arsenal. I didn't get the memo. *I* thought I was "serving God."

    Note: long rant below.

Last week I put up a poll asking people if they would stop or keep using a given app/software once they find out that it has been partially or fully developed using AI/vibe code. You can see the poll and the results below.

But now I want to give my personal response to the poll, and my unscientific analysis of the results (and the comments).

My personal response: "depends". As many things in life, it depends on a lot of factors. Do I like it? Is it useful? Is it critical? Does it handle sensitive/private information/PII? Does it send or store data somewhere else where I can't control? There are multiple factors to consider, so I don't discard it "just because AI". I have discarded software for various other reasons that have nothing to do with how they were coded, which language they're written with or which tool was used to build/distributed it. AI for sure is not an immediate red flag for me.

As to my unscientific analysis: as you can see by the poll results it was a relatively tight tie between "I'm out" and "depends". Even though the people who would give it up in a heartbeat have the majority of the votes (45%), they do not account for the majority of the opinion. Simply put: 55% would most likely keep using it. Everyone have their reasons for doing so, and some people wrote down theirs (great comments), but the interesting fact to me is that the people who are totally against the use of AI simply did not spend any time putting out a comment. I don't know if they think me or the people who would read the comments are not worth the effort, or if they are so strictly set in their ways that they don't want to waste time explaining or exposing themselves to a debate. I really don't know. You make your own judgment.

I will just repeat what I said in another post about a month ago: one very important piece of wisdom that age gave me is to not disregard or disdain any technology. I've been in this world for quite a while. I've been using computers since before the consumer-level internet existed. I keep my eyes peeled, and my ears to the ground. For better or for worse.

    Just saying.

At the next safehouse, I boot up the Live DVD hidden in my music CD collection and begin the ritual of recovering my accounts as I eye the window nervously.

It won't be long before I hack into every webcam in a mile radius here, too, so I can know when they're coming for me.

As I begin unraveling my security protocols, news starts pouring into my encrypted feed from the Old Patriots who still believe in liberal democracy and want to return to how things used to be.

With some trepidation, I scan the list of confirmed victims' handles. I don't recognize anyone this time.

I send coded messages to a few friends. They respond back affirmatively. Our messages self-delete shortly afterwards.

None of them know the real me. I don't know the real them. We don't even know each others' actual handles. Compartmentalization is necessary for survival.

    Things that bug me.

As I mentioned, the 18 Oct No Kings protest drew about ~7M people, estimated both by RSVP and LE agencies official estimates.

US has 332M as of last *accurate* census (no post tRump US govt agency is reliable, because political use). 7M is about 2.11% of the total US population.

Folks are OBSESSED about the 3.5% population protesting as some magical formula for toppling a regime.

@Xenophon @branman65 I don't see it as a gotcha. I've always liked mature ladies anyway. I hung around with my older cousin in the summers and I think his girlfriend's friends left an impression on me.

As for Beanmin, I don't care what he does provided it's legal, although pornography is degenerate and we all should avoid it.

The IRS has now changed the rules to allow churches to endorse political candidates without fear of losing tax-exempt status.

Although the IRS rarely enforced the rule as it was, during President Trump's first term he promised to "get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution."

I actually thought this was allowed in Canada already, because when I was living in rural Alberta this is exactly what the church was doing. I just didn't realize that they were breaking laws because they aren't enforced. Regardless, it never sat right with me.

As they say, there are two kinds of people you should never trust: A religious leader who tells you how to vote and a politician who tells you how to pray.
