@toplesstopics For me it’s the other way around: I get way more active conversations here than I ever did on Twitter (which admittedly I wasn’t very good at). I’m pretty liberal in following people, balanced by liberally unfollowing those that annoy me.
As for Pixelfed: I’ve been active on my smallish instance for two days. Today’s top post currently 77 likes and 25 boosts, which seems like a lot even by the standards of my far more established Mastodon account.
@slothrop That's great! Does anyone interact with the posts, though? I'm still going to be using pixelfed more than Instagram going forward, but my experiences with decentralized platforms has been an extreme difficulty in actually finding people to interact with. I mean, it's taken me over two years of posting and replying every day on this account to establish whatever interaction I can on here, and it's still very limited. (and I'm not saying I care from a "social media engagement business angle," I know there's no monetization or "trending" model on fedi, I just mean that I don't post to SOCIAL media just to hear my own self talk)
When I started actively using Mastodon ca 2020, the apps had the same sort of problems. They’ve gotten LOADS better since then. (Today, I use Phanpy for Mastodon, and it’s wonderful!)
I expect that the Pixelfed apps will take a similar trajectory, and get better with time.
@slothrop Lol yep. This is what I'm talking about... Just spent ten minutes laboriously copying text and writing alt text using my thumb only on my phone to try to post it pixelfed via pixelix, only for the post to time out with no option to refresh and try again without losing everything. Oh, fediverse 😩
@slothrop I'm glad you're having at least that level of interaction, and it seems likely to grow 😊 I still need to find an android app for pixelfed that works well on my phone... I've tried two so far but they both have designs I don't love. That's the only benefit to corporate owned platforms, really--they can afford to hire front-end designers who design apps to actually be easy to use for those of us without a computer science degree.
@toplesstopics I’m sure you’ve looked at a fair number of instances already. @ vagina_museum@masto.ai is on masto.ai - perhaps you could ask them whether they’d recommend the instance?
@slothrop Sorta... Depends on the instance, still seems like most of them are like every other patriarchy-designed platform in that only "female looking nipples" are required to have nudity and adult content warnings placed over them while "male looking nipples" aren't 🙄
of course I'll take ALL nipples being censored over only "female looking NIPPLES," that at least is better than all the mainstream apps.
