@jwz Jesus, did they get infiltrated by hostile management? Like when SGI hired a CEO who came from HP, fucked up SGI real good by trying to replace Irix with Windows NT and then went to work at Microsoft?
It can't just be normal corporate incompetence anymore, can it?
@piggo That's cheating anyways! You're supposed to feck around with textmode partitioning tools, manually creating filesystems and mounting them in the right places.
@neauoire Most of the sailing youtuber channels look pretty desperate these days.
They're infested with LOOK at our MISLEADING titles, fake stills, spamming adverts inside the content and increasingly resorting to T&A (tits and arses) or just entire videos that are glowing reviews of sponsored gear. And posting obvious placeholder content when there's nothing really to tell.
It's amazing how there are zero clones or even third-party accessories of certain, Chinese owned brands on AliExpress. Clearly those did pay their protection money.
@forrestbrazeal It's a subplot of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Deepness_in_the_Sky where the ancient hacker can break all the new tech because he's such a relic that he still understands the underlying technology it's all built on, which the current generation of techies have completely detached themselves from, operating so many layers of abstraction higher than him that they can't begin to understand how he could have possibly undermined all their fancy gadgets so completely.
@piggo Of course they are. Well, probably not actual ChatGPT but some lesser rubbish that suffices to fob customers off with some half baked bullshit answers while pretending to "care" about them.
Real support is expensive and not worth it. Most customers keep paying anyways and losing a few is cheaper than having real support.
Of course you have no idea what you're getting. But probably a knackered old battery that may or may not have smashed into a bridge pillar at some time :D
@mikoto And a shitty internet connection with 30% packet loss (there's software to simulate those available for this).
Because half of that Javascript shit doesn't _ever_ retry a failed transmission and has stupidly short timeouts with no error handler other than "oops it broked".
