#art #history: it's quite apt that a fascist-killing machine owner's birthday should coincide with recent events. he had the trump klan's number back in 1954 when he wrote about elder t's racist housing practices. this, alone, is enough for woody to've earned your undying love, but he was also a steadfast socialist/communist, an avowed anti-racist & a fierce defender of workers' rights. to top it off, his music remains an influence on the best folk. #woodyGuthrie #illustration #antifascist

although she made her debut in miami, she's more strongly identified with the big apple. her adoptive parents were from new jersey, you see, so she grew up there & escaped to NYC in 1965. [short thread - &, yes, i DID have to do multiple variations!]

#art #history: i promised myself that this year would be the one during which i paid tribute to the revolutionary, frida kahlo (born #otd in 1907), & then i was too busy to do her any sort of justice. not only have i rushed her portrait, but i've also had no time to write up the sort of blurb that she merits. she was a death-defying, genre-spanning communist powerhouse & diego was punching waaaaaaaay up. :)
