@drewdevault that one guy's debian build is pretty solid but I can't bring myself to use the device, out in the world, because I know I can't replace it if it physically breaks
so I've been sticking with the remarkable 2

sure, local tv news, I can do an interview with an hour's notice. it is easy for me
@technomancy @klardotsh DRY was invented by people whose text editors suck. With sam, updating the headers in a hundred html files is as easy as updating the headers in one.
@foonathan @drewdevault this is the hackernewsest possible response
I just figured out why Red Hat keeps making all these obnoxious decisions (killing CentOS, obfuscating source code access, etc)
they're trying to keep everyone from noticing they deprecated Motif!
@technomancy @klardotsh Terraform is a machine that converts YAML into misconfigured virtual machines. There is a large community of people who have striven to get it working correctly and the corporation that develops it is now trying to make the software more valuable by fucking with the licensing, both of Terraform itself and the repository they host for third-party contributions.
Forking isn't gonna be enough because what value there is has been trapped in the Corporate Repo Gulag
@lanodan @neauoire when 9front started, mercurial already worked and google code was still a thing. when google rug-pulled their code hosting service I just made my own damn mercurial host and we used that for a while. after many years, Ori freed us from the python pit
this has been today's Unsolicited 9front History report
@technomancy I run my own email server. It's nowhere NEAR as complicated as getting fully-interoperable ActivityPub.
Having said that, Google and Facebook killed XMPP with this exact "create product, federate with open servers, accumulate users, defederate, tell users to switch to corporate servers if they want to talk to contacts, pivot to closed app to pull the ladder up" with Google Talk and Facebook Chat.
I suspect that Outlook, sadly, is the levy that protected against this with email.
Google only has one real product, across all their offerings, and that product is spying on people. They're absolutely unable to help themselves.
"His personality is forceful but not objectionable" -- Tri-City Heraldcomputer nerd at a national lab.I help out with 9front sometimes.when I see nazis, conspiracy wingnuts, pedo apologists, or any other repugnant shit, I block the whole instance. no time for that or the people who enable it.posts here self-destruct within a month or so.
