@ryanhoulihan to me, it's just like the so-called war on christmas - the underlying desire is to be rude (or worse) just to not really care about people. I'll make mistakes (old man yells at cloud - get off my lawn! habits die hard after decades of phrasing normality, but they aren't intentional like so many are.
@Gargron people said the same of photoshop and I think this may age the same way, FWIW, and I am blown away by Burt Monroy's artwork (I ran the computer labs for his photoshop classes, and he is amazing): https://www.bertmonroy.com/
@ryanhoulihan Sorry to hear it. There's a lot to like if you look for it, and most of the places that are better for minorities are only better because the US has done some heavy lifting. I do hate that things aren't better, and have taken a step backwards in so many ways (and I'm terrified of what the next step backwards will be), but hate can be a rather strong word/emotion.
@ryanhoulihan dare I say that in a world without birth control and with stds, it definitely was a thing? It is hard to state how much the confluence of the pill and penicillin did to change the world for women (and the rest of us, for the better).
@ryanhoulihan@riley Agreed, but it took Centuries, if not Millennia to surmount that (and have we? See Putin and other would-be-Kings - heck, see 2024 US election if it goes orange...).
@riley@ryanhoulihan The thing is, would either palestinian or israeli leadership EVER commit to that and trust each other? IMHO, that answer is no (no matter how much every other country on the planet supported it) I just see more fighting no matter what.
@ryanhoulihan To be sure, Netanyahu (and ALL the Israelis who keep voting for him and Likud) Hamas (and all the Palestinians/Gazans who voted for them) are. They have both chosen this fight instead of supporting the 2-state option. They have both been barrelling towards this for decades now. I don't have any good alternative to the 2-state solution. Does anyone?
@HeavenlyPossum@Alexander_Anotherskip_Davis IMHO. mostly that you are conflating monopolists with capitalists and what passes for capitalism today is NOT capitalism, it is the opposite of what Adam Smith meant by free markets in capital and labor, and most your issues appear to be with what monopolists are doing to corrupt free markets and perform rent-seeking. Capitalism with good rules and referees is what's needed, but both have been corrupted by monopolists (and not for the first time).
@RD4Anarchy@HeavenlyPossum@pluralistic From Britannica - you are still conflating "monopoly/oligopoly" with "capitalism". The point being that what we have is NOT a free market based economy (Defn of Capitalism here), based on market principles, but rather an oligopoly based on monopolistic principles. That is what #enshittification is all about - Rent Seeking through Monopoly.
