@m8rt @adrianh Don't forget ML just replicates the average, and this stuff probably does confuse (or confirm) a lot of people.
cf "v9.9 or v9.11, which version is later?"

@jcalpickard @orbific Remind me again.. where's a good place to start looking into making your own LLMs? Bit of an overview might be useful, but then a way to run a small one locally, perhaps.
(I know I could ask chatGPT this.)
@adrianh Both could be easily replaced by "Meetings that should have been agenda'd up front, with a realistic timescale."
Vague warning messages obviously written by a developer #26531:
"Your unlocked membership abilities might be affected if you update the details below"
Oooooominous.

I mean, I love the film Hackers. But feels like the world's billionaires are just trying to invent Dade Murphy's clearly-ridiculous AR monocle still.
Like, it's *partly* about tech breaking. But it's *mostly* that I have an account with IFTTT, I have an account with the smart device brand, but neither of them can be bothered to send me an email to say the change has happened.
Instead they're too fucking busy integrating AI and coming up with new business models to give a shit.
Consumer-grade "smart" tech is all "very clever" but honestly? Stuck in the shit parts of the cyberpunk 90s.
The #enshittening in action:
1. Think "ooh, maybe an extra smart plug would be good."
2. Look for smart plug same brand as existing ones for simplicity.
3. Search IFTTT. Fail to find brand as IFTTT task even though existing applets look ok.
4. Try using IFTTT's AI assistant to create applet for brand.
5. GET REDIRECTED TO RANDOM SMART DEVICE SITE, which asks for email.
6. Get confused, do some searching.
7. Find out brand has stopped paying for IFTTT integration.
8. Wonder why anyone bothers.
@orbific That's not how profit-making works.
Great to see XKCD celebrating the shutdown of the last UK coal power station.
Today's random-but-interesting question from son2 was "what is pepper?" which, tbh, stumped me.
Parents must have looked really stupid before the internet.
@paulsilver ok, tentatively back up. Not sure if that was me publicising it more than usual, or the router reboot around the same time. Both, probably.
@orbific I put things in, but they never come back out.
@paulsilver Oh no, they just break in new and completely different ways instead 😂
@paulsilver I should probably finally install that ethernet cable and USB remote switch I've got sitting around too.
@paulsilver It's possibly having a little breaky 😅 The joys of self-hosting mean I can't reboot it until my wife's meeting has finished though, haha...

Quick blog post about randomising my social feed check-ins to stave off the never-ending, gnawing and fragmented FOMO of a thousand shattered social spaces.

@DrVeronikaCH @Mollysdailykiss @neil Yes, I've used hugo and 11ty before and like them for what they are, but never quite found they fit my own use case, let alone less technical people. WordPress forks might be the way to go for a while.
@Guv_Bubbs Intrigued by the one person that managed to order one the day before everyone else 😅
In theory you've got a bit of data there to cross-reference faults over time, right? Not suggesting you do, but would be intriguing to know if certain batches are more prone than others.
