@clacke Yep, been there. I bent my new glasses after accidentally falling asleep on the couch and wore an old pair for longer than I should've. Getting the frames fixed and seeing clearly again felt so good.
Note to self: The kitchen table is a launchpad, not storage. The #cat knocked the treats onto the floor, the lid popped, and I walked in on the crime. The look on the cat's face? "I was just walking by and they exploded. I am cleaning up the mess to help you." 😼 #CatsOfMastodon
At 4:00 AM the #cat arrives for Mandatory Affection Time™. Face-smushing and hand-bonking commence. He seems to find it to be an entirely appropriate hour for social interaction. #Caturday#CatsOfMastodon
Help the @fsf reach their $400,000 goal by Jan 1 - a tiny fraction of resources compared to giants like Microsoft (that's about 45 seconds of their revenue in a year)! The FSF does so much with so little to defend #FreeSoftware & #SoftwareFreedom. Read more: https://www.fsf.org/appeal
Your smart fridge, car, even your cat's litter box now run on software. But who's REALLY scooping? If the code's locked up, someone else holds the power switch to your life. Support the @fsf in their mission to have all software be Free: https://www.fsf.org/appeal
In turbulent times, human rights remain a winning proposition for humanity. On #HumanRightsDay, let's celebrate the essentials we share - and defend the world we want to live in.
Happy #DEC10 Day! Let's remember the PDP-10 - a machine that shaped early computing culture, inspired generations of hackers, and helped spark the software communities we know today.
Happy birthday to Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, born on this day in 1906! A pioneer of computer science, she helped create COBOL, popularized the term “debugging,” and shaped modern programming. Here's to the woman who helped code the future. #GraceHopper#STEM#WomenInStem
A neighborhood #cat keeps visiting. It has a collar, so I figured it had a home. I've been happy to give it pets and food when it stops by. It rained last night, and this morning the cat showed up soaked. Now I'm wondering if it really has a place to go, or if it might be homeless. I'm thinking about taking it to a vet to check for a microchip - maybe it needs help, or maybe it just likes visiting. The roommate says to adopt, depending on what the vet says. What do you say? #CatsOfMastodon
I planned to sleep in 90 minutes but the #cat said no to that. Loudly. First it sounded like a "feed me" yell, so I got up and fed him. He ate and immediately came back to yell again with more of a "why are you still asleep?" yell which turned into more of a "I demand attention" yell. Anyway, I'm awake now. Mission accomplished, cat. #CatsOfMastodon
@tedel So I'd say it’s private in the social sense (not visible publicly), but not necessarily private in the technical sense like end-to-end encrypted messaging depending on the details of which server(s) the message travels through and who is in control of those.
@tedel I'd say it depends on what you mean by private. When you send a "private mention" on Mastodon, it still has to be delivered through servers you don’t control (unless you personally run your own instance and the other instance see it too, unless you're both on the same instance). So at minimum your server admin sees it, and if the recipient is on a different server, their admin sees it too. That’s already 2-4 parties involved in handling the message: You, the recipient, and 1 or 2 admins.
I was watching #Snoopy dig through his dog house and pull out way more stuff than could ever fit inside. There's only one logical answer: Snoopy is secretly a Time Lord. His dog house is a #TARDIS with a red roof. Case closed. #DoctorWho#CharlieBrown#Peanuts
