it's been 24 hours since my 18 year old #cat, Coli died. Here's a picture from before he was sick with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Colin was a very polite cat. Instead of just jumping up on me or the desk, he'd reach up and give me a little double-tap on my side or arm to get my attention, his way of asking permission to sit with me. I'd push back from the desk, cross one leg over the other to make some extra space, and he'd hop right up and settle in. #CatsOfMastodon

My 18 year old #cat Colin died as his 4 year battle with chronic kidney disease came to an end. He had a good life. I'm the only one he slept with, the only one allowed to pet him. He ran from everyone else. When I came home, he ran to the door. When I called out his name, he came. No idea why I was the chosen one, but I'll take it. It'll be strange not having him sleep with me, especially tonight & for a while. Goodbye, Colin. I'll miss you. #CatsOfMastodon

The younger #cat got the zoomies, running around the house at warp speed. Knocked over a succulent, and successfully deployed sand directly into a computer through the top vents. I stripped it down, removed all the sand, rebuilt it... and it lives. Cat: undefeated. Computers: surprisingly resilient. #CatsOfMastodon

Watching my 18-year-old #cat age is a lesson in gentleness. This morning he ate, walked away, came back, and asked to be fed again - his food still there. I picked it up, set it down, and suddenly it made sense to him again. He's still there, just navigating the world a little differently now. @clacke Yep, been there. I bent my new glasses after accidentally falling asleep on the couch and wore an old pair for longer than I should've. Getting the frames fixed and seeing clearly again felt so good.
