Welcome to your computer. Now you just need to use the camera for age verification, and authorization to use the computer. #FreeSoftware#SoftwareFreedom
The PDP-10 computer's 60 years old. It shaped early computing culture, made multitaksing common and helped build the early internet. It ran the Incompatible Timesharing System (ITS), an OS that pioneered modern features, some still unbeat to this day, and gave birth to #Emacs. Learn about the role that one PDP-10 at MIT played in sparking the free software movement by reading Free As In Freedom 2.0: https://sagitter.fedorapeople.org/faif-2.0.pdf#FreeSoftware#SoftwareFreedom#GNU#Linux
The move to #Trisquel 12 seems to be a complete success! Took the opportunity to do a complete wipe and reinstall to transition all drives to #btrfs. The system is running flawlessly, and BorgBackup is currently restoring all my documents to the freshly formatted drives. #GNU#Linux#FreeSoftware#SoftwareFreedom
@jakob@andi LVM definitely solves that, assuming it was set up a decade ago. Though since btrfs subvolumes dynamically share the same storage pool, it natively solves that issue without needing the extra layer of LVM.
@jakob@andi Just to clarify, Trisquel fully supports in-place upgrades. Wiping the drive is purely my own personal choice. I just prefer doing a clean install to clear out the cruft that may have been forgotten over the years. Plus, since I wanted to switch the root filesystem from ext4 to btrfs this time, a format was necessary anyway.
Trisquel 12 upgrade time. Since I normally do a full reformat and reinstall for major OS upgrades anyway I'm using this as the perfect excuse to migrate my root partitions from ext4 to btrfs. Slowly rolling this out across my fleet of machines so it'll take a while. Anyone else making the switch? #Trisquel#GNU#Linux#btrfs#FreeSoftware#SoftwareFreedom
My #cat Nova has a rule for snuggling: I must pretend she's invisible. If she's walking over and I make eye contact or call her, she stops approaching and leaves. I have to actively ignore her until she settles down next to me. The payoff? Instant, aggressive purring and kneading. I'm but a pawn in her psychological games. #CatsOfMastodon#Caturday
New competitive sport: Rackracing. Here's how to play: Step 1: Get a 42U server rack (must have wheels). Step 2: Find a steep hill. Step 3: Get inside the rack. Step 4: Zoom down the hill. Whee!
So you just have to stand there in the dark and do nothing, huh?
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten be a grue. >wait Time passes. You hear horrible gurgling sounds in the dark. >wait Time passes. You hear the clink of razor-sharp claws nearby. >wait Time passes. Your last memory is of the slavering fangs of the horrible Grue as it claims you for a meal. *** YOU HAVE DIED ***
@sezduck@johnefrancis That actually makes perfect sense. All that excess energy has to to somewhere so the exploding consoles are just pressure release valves. It's a feature, not a bug. Exploding consoles are the price you pay for not splatting into the viewscreen.
On #StarTrek they can go from traveling at warp 9 to a full stop within seconds without the people on the ship flying forward and splatting into the wall. #AllStarTrek
