I keep noting to myself and others that California voted to keep slavery. It's us, we're not good right now. maybe we never were.

The good news is the dark ages were kind of nicer to live through, people lived longer and more peaceful lives.

I have occasionally wondered what the message was in making the governments so neo Roman. It's not subtle, it's never been subtle.

Seriously though, we've always imagined ourselves the neo Rome. And frankly it's tracking, the Republic going down in graft and mass corruption while politicians promise payments to the voters in exchange for power, until one more venal guy just takes over and gets killed.

What about that does not look incredibly likely? We've already got the right style of buildings in the capital, practically like someone knew all along.

I'm getting kind of tired of the endless election pontification, especially from people who don't really reflect the electorate. We're not overly complicated people. What if the whole things is that Trump sent everyone checks when he was president? What if they just want to get paid? What if it's that simple?

@janef0421 @PenguinJunk @ErgonWolf i've seen these numbers and that's occasionally true, especially for places with less good access to offtime power, but mostly it's not. it has a place in the mix, but not an extensive one. the french have the best experience here, and it's been ok, but we import a huge amount from spanish renewables among other things.

...the maintenance costs are fucking crushing.

The first thing that comes to mind, always, is DDOS the federal court system.

@alienghic that woman hates me so much she once asked my husband out to dinner and told him he couldn't bring me. i never even particularly did anything, she just decided i was dirt, probably after one of the times the internet got mad at me.

I remembered when I was briefly on Bluesky, I tried to say there were still ways to resist and cope if Trump was re-elected. I was brigaded and abused so hard that I left the platform for my own mental health.

But now I guess it's time to think and talk about that.
