This one is going to fuck us for a *long, long* time.
"In overruling Chevron, a 40-year-old precedent, the Court decided that federal agencies no longer get to fill in the gaps of Congress’ laws with their experts’ own reasonable interpretation of how to carry them out; that authority now resides in the judiciary. It’s a power grab that the right-wing legal world has been marching towards for years — and they finally got a Court activist enough to do it."
It's fun to blame Red Lobster going down because of all you can eat shrimp, but no one really emphasizes this bit:
"A private equity firm bought the chain ten years ago from Darden Restaurants.... The firm, Golden Gate Capital, funded the deal partly by selling Red Lobster's real estate.
That meant the chain had to start paying rent. That's now a major financial factor in Red Lobster's bankruptcy filing"
VC again leaving a trail of destruction behind them
Remember, state by state control of your bodily autonomy is ok with the SCOTUS, but state by state determination if you've engaged in a insurrection you were impeached for and can't run for office is a bridge too far.
@inthehands@mekkaokereke This is one of those many times I wonder if it’s just cheaper to give them money for a place to live then continually making them more miserable
This #strike is brutal, but we're talking about the viability of Hollywood for millions of people versus billion dollar corporations who say, can close a $400 million dollar hotel they spent a decade conceiving in the blink of an eye to make something on paper look slightly better.
Outside the #unions we've already felt the long-term financial losses, but this is a war that must be fought across more than just Hollywood.
@lauren If it helps any, V is by far the worst, and TMP actually gets a little better every viewing. Especially this last color correction in the recent 4k release.
