In the 1973 movie Westworld one scene that always stuck out to me was when the scientists were trying to figure out why the robots were going crazy and they talked about how complex the robots are:
"In some cases, they've been designed by other computers. We don't know exactly how they work."
I mean that's CRAZY, no one would let software be created by other software which could effect PEOPLE with no one understanding what was really going on.
Sure. Amazon wants to get rid of the Consumer Product Safety Board. I mean why even pretend to care about society when you're a Billionaire or their spawn.
All that matters is the rich getting richer. Amazing that they want to make the Robber Barons look like fucking saints.
@GottaLaff "The GOP said they will stop your Social Security unless Elon Musk gets access to all your records" seems like a good simple message to get out to the public.
I mean, how do you go in public looking like this? Doesn't he have a makeup person would would fix this before he walks outside? It's like a child sprayed something on his face and he didn't wash it off? This is the guy leading us?
Billionaire #2's rocket got to orbit. I'm still impressed by it all, but I do have to admit the fun of it is long over because of the owners involved.
It doesn't feel like an achievement for *us* but for *them*. Not to make civilization better but to either line their pockets which don't need any more lining, or fluff their egos, furthering their weird ass ideas of the "perfect" future.
It especially hurts as a sci-fi fan, because it's not even close to the future I dreamed of as a kid.
Something that pops up into my head on occasion: The DOJ was *created* in 1870 by Congress and President Grant, specifically to enforce the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments and stop white terrorism against blacks by prosecuting the KKK. Problems aside, it has been a core element of the fight against institutional racism.
I definitely keep that in mind, considering the source of attacks against it.
@jwz I get what they were going for, in a tribute to the character and actor, and they probably could have made a handful of shots look good. But to essentially make him a main character for scene after scene, it didn't hold up, and ranged from "OK" looking to "Bad" sadly.
Interesting. Because the version that I saw for streaming really didn't hold up, especially for the amount of time he appeared in the movie. I don't know if that is the *fixed* version but, woof. I was shocked he was in it as long as he was; being prewarned of his appearance. I thought it would be like a 2-3 shot cameo, not a main character.
Don't fly your goddamn drones over fires. It grounded a plane when no one has enough of any of this equipment during a disaster. There is no conceivable scenario where anyone needs to do this.
