      The United States experienced negative net migration for the first time in 50 years in 2025, mostly due to a drop in entries. "We estimate net flows of -295,000 to -10,000 for the year," a study by the Brookings Institution states, going on to say that continued negative net migration is likely for this year. According to the report, authorities predict the migration loss will lead to "unexpectedly weak economic activity" in certain sectors.
