@AnarchoNinaWrites sex-shaming is weird af to me. Like I mean I'm pretty ace (unless it's for cheap cereal) so I get not wanting to engage with it all the time but like...as long as people aren't putting the shit in your timeline without a CW just keep on stepping.
@ampersine nobody is hate voting for Trump, this is just something liberals have made up. Everybody who votes for him loves him, and is not going to switch, regardless of how much fascist catering the Democrats want to do.
However, Biden continuously not doing what people want is going to discourage voters and your man is going to lose because he would rather do a genocide than just bite a bullet and pressure Israel into a ceasefire.
@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes yet another popular cis "leftist" white woman "journalist" has shitty takes on queer politics that come out after they brought everyone in with their good takes.
Maybe this is some kind of trend everyone ought to be more cautious of.
Since WPATH still does the whole "HRT can be dangerous because here's some studies showing that happened with EE and synthetic progestins that no one prescribes anymore" thing and there's this whole "are you *sure* you want to do this?!" paternalism in trans health care that still occurs, it's hard to say which one of those things contributes to this bullshit. It's probably both.
Also I want to be abundantly clear about this as well.
If you sit here and say that you support me and the classes I belong to, that is: gay, trans, and woman. Then you have to support the Palestinians in their struggle. The bare minimum in doing the latter is to say that Israel is doing a genocide and the US, and thus Biden, is complicit.
If you fail to understand the connection, you fail to understand basic intersectional theory.
@AnarchoNinaWrites I was getting some optimistic analysis that had me on maybe, but hearing your answer and reading the Supreme Court issue on appeal and how broad and encompassing it is, and how legal analysts are using the language of "chill" in the sense of a public official function when talking about presidential immunity (which, if youve ever looked an FOIA document and easily redaction occurs for plausible "chilling effect", whew that gets applied broadly), I'm thinking you might just be right.
@AnarchoNinaWrites I certainly agree that at this point (regardless of any October surprises), a Biden vs. Trump election will, with almost 100% certainty, result in a Trump victory, and that we should plan and act accordingly.
But I am curious (if you want to engage with this) as to your thoughts to the question of if Trump will go to jail. Like, how are you on that possibility? Will it even matter even if he does?
Of course, this isn't to say that fascists and accelerationists both are driven by their own monomyths. The fascist requires the neoliberal, because the fascist is the hero in this story. The accelerationist requires both of them to push their galaxy brained bullshit about sending more people to the camps in order to incite revolution and make progress**.
** Which of course, isn't their actual goals, but rather they just want to feel like the smartest person in the room and balk "I told you so's" from their privileged position. That is, to become the hero in the monomyth.
Everything makes sense when you view it through this lens.
For example, liberals attacking people who are jaded about voting and critiquing Biden as a result makes sense if you see Biden as the "hero" and Trump as a "villain" in a monomyth. When the story is simplified to that degree, people who don't vote for Biden and demand more out of him, are seen as equally villainous.
Deprived of fascism, the hero of this story has no value, and then just becomes a racist career politician who lies and impedes progress.
@big_louse I don't think he was talking about white people specifically? Maybe? But I do explicitly remember he showed this Cato Institute study where it was like, talking about how not everyone was in the military for money or college benefits (which, of course, one could also talk about methodology issues there, and I'm sure Cato did because for whatever it's worth their research is thorough af, but I digress), and thus there's no poverty draft. Like um...this says at least a good portion did join for that reason lol.
...and yes, I can definitely tell you that bipoc folks are far over represented in the lower enlisted ranks.
I really get frustrated when I find good memes without alt text.
Also, bonus thank you for explaining the joke in the alt text. I feel like a lot of corporate social media has programmed us to accept meta analysis implicit in memes and memeable content, feel like we're assholes if we don't get something, and I think that can be dangerous (not to mention laborious and mentally taxing, and ableist in and of itself).
This bullshit going on reminds me about something that happened on the Fedi a few years back about how this popular tankie dude was trying to debunk the poverty draft with some study from the Cato Institute that didn't say what he thought it said.
I really need internet leftists to understand that the US military grooms children, and has admitted to there being a poverty draft.
If you are a USian who never considered joining the military (or at least would consider it if you could), then you're fucking privileged.
...and I need people to incorporate that into their analysis when they talk about these things, in addition to just stop fucking moralizing and expecting perfection out of people doing a brave act. Which is what this was.
Like, I thought Smedley Butler was hardcore, but Aaron Bushnell is nothing less than a hero by any sort of standard. If you don't agree with that, just fuck off.
@AnarchoNinaWrites you walk in sunlight because you're not an abuser. It's that simple 🤷♀️
People who want to abuse and harass folks need to also DARVO them. They have to exaggerate actions done by the victims to make it seem like a back and forth, some sort of battle. But it's not. They're just dead ass mad that you blocked all of them and didn't play into their bullshit lol
If you have five and a half hours, I recommend watch Jessie Gender and Aranok's video about the monomyth of Star Wars https://youtu.be/puXNbtHksb0
If you don't have that time, the big important takeaway is that neoliberalism and fascism are only opposed on a surface level, but actually rely on each other to recycle the "Hero's Journey" and maintain the status quo.
So, if you're wondering why exactly Biden isn't opposing the fascists as well as he could even though he stands to lose an election as a result, and thus the fascism he claims to oppose may win, it's because Biden and the rest of the neoliberals rely on fascism. Because in order to justify neoliberalism and all the bullshit that comes with it, they must be the heroes that save us from fascism.
