@mattly I feel like spending decades forcing myself to be productive on teams using NT project management and communication software has significantly contributed to my burnout.
Developers of to-do and reminder apps need to understand that they cannot interrupt the capture workflow for any reason. I just opened iOS Reminders and had to quickly dismiss a couple new feature announcement dialogs that blocked operation entirely, because if I stopped to read them I would forget what I went there to capture so I wouldn't forget it. I managed it, but instead I didn't get to see the new feature descriptions. #ADHD of course
What is this trend of dropping some of the most recognizable brand names and switching to generic words that could mean nearly anything? This seems like the opposite of what branding is for.
@nocontexttrek I loved Sarah Silverman in Voyager, and Wallace Shawn was great as Grand Nagus Zek, but holy crap, Rainn Wilson absolutely nailed Harry Mudd.
Looks like we are headed into another COVID-19 wave. I hope everyone going to giant concerts and enjoying international vacations lives long enough to regret their foolishness. I'm sorry if this hurts someone's feelings, but we have been in this pandemic for three and a half years and everyone knows better by now. Want to talk about hurt feelings? I have no life anymore because people won't wear masks in public or avoid unnecessary gatherings and travel, and it feels like everyone is cool with me having no life as long as it doesn't impact them. And every day I see someone say "Oops! I let down my guard and got covid even though I knew better." I saw three of those just this morning.
COVID is not over. Not even close. It's just not being reported on because people prefer to live in denial. but we know what to do: Get vaccinated, and keep up with the boosters. Wear a high-quality mask when indoors in public. Avoid unnecessary gatherings and travel. If you want to socialize, do it outdoors, but don't overdo it. Get tested before attending gatherings.
If you want to get yourself sick, that's up to you. But as we have known for over three years, it's not about you. It's a pandemic, and your choices affect other people. People like me who never get to go anywhere because you just had to go to a concert or fly halfway around the world on a lark. And I don't know why I have to feel like a villain for even mentioning it.
I hate how stupid American news is about reporting gun violence incidents. I know we should not look away, and we can't afford to accept mass shooings or active shooter situations as normal. But shutting down all the news to focus on something as a special event when that thing happens almost every day seems ridiculous. Hours of breaking news and special coverage that is 99% waiting for any news at all is useless.
@mattly My guess is that this kind of intrusive spyware has insinuated itself into much of the software ecosystem. A company may not need or even want any of that surveillance tech, but it comes with everything now, so they use it because that's what the documentation says to do, and there's no cost or consequence to stop them.
