Pretty shocking that the guy who incited a violent insurrection when he lost last time isn’t ruling out violence if he loses this time. Glad I was sitting down for that one. #trump#fascism
Xitter suspended, without explanation, Steven Monacelli, Ken Klippenstein, Rob Rousseau, the TrueAnon podcast and almost certainly others. And I’d still bet my last dollar that I’ll soon read an article that describes Musk as devoted to free speech. #elonmusk#fascism
Once past the headline on this, you have to dig through 10 graphs about how GOPers have come to embrace RW propaganda about Jan 6 before learning that 55% say it was “an attack on democracy that should never be forgotten,” 56% think #Trump committed crimes and 46% think he should be disqualified. #magacoup#media#14thamendment
People are more likely to believe false information that they hear repeatedly than accurate info they are only exposed to occasionally. It's called The Illusory Truth Effect and it often feels like right-wingers and social psychologists are the only people in America who get it.
I think the real story here is that #NikkiHaley understood that she's vying for the nomination of a neo-confederate party whose base wants to hear that it was a War of Northern Aggression. #gop#whitesupremacy#civilwar
True that SCOTUS will figure out some reason to overturn but lack of conviction is a red herring. Being ineligible doesn't deprive you of life, liberty or property and the authors of 14A didn't require conviction bc they were barring 1000s of confederates and trying them all would've been impossible.
Any major party candidate can win but the idea that Trump has a good chance is based on people not understanding that polls 6 months before the general election starts are referenda on the incumbent rather than reflective of a choice and confusing GOP primary voters’ lack of concern over Trump’s crimes with the general electorate’s. #Election2024
WaPo workers are walking out on Thursday. They're asking that we show solidarity and respect their digital picket line by not engaging with any Washington Post content on Dec 7. #labor#media
Watched my dad die a couple of hours ago. A 1-star experience, wish I could give zero.
ALS is a shitty disease that he's been fighting for 7 years. When it finally gets someone you love, you feel a weird mixture of grief and relief. At least the suffering's over.
Almost all of the (rare) cases of actual voter fraud in recent years have been committed by Republicans who believe the right-wing propaganda about Dems stealing elections and think that it's easy to get away with and also that they're fighting fire with fire.
Anderson Cooper had on a former Israeli intel chief who said, "The noncombatant population in the Gaza strip is really a nonexistent term because all of the Gazans voted for Hamas, and...most of the population in the Gaza strip are Hamas."
Cooper didn't push back.
Again, #Hamas won an election with 44.5% of the vote 17 years ago, before around half of the population of #Gaza were born, and then seized complete power in a bloody civil war with Fatah. #israel#media
Israel's stated goal of completely eradicating Hamas necessitates committing war crimes as there are an estimated 25-30k Hamas fighters deeply entrenched within a civilian population of over 2 million. Proportionality and the protection of civilians are impossible when the objective is to eliminate every one.
It's a classic example of a mismatch between political goals and military capability.
