I’ve been in this business, writing software professionally, since I started my first software business at 16 in high school on an Apple ][. That’s 45 fucking years. It would never occur to me to steal other people’s code, let alone their likenesses, voices, or art.

Just eject these thieving “AI” companies into the sun. These people, and the VCs that fund them, are a cancer on the software industry.

Kinda hard to be an assurity in the State of NY if you won’t, you know, actually assure that you’ll pay the bond at the conclusion of the case. So IOW they’ll be disqualified on this and several other fronts.

@w7voa why is it she gets to “correct” her dissertation? No one else would ever be granted such a privilege. Real people have to live with the fallout from their actions. And learn to live with them.

@skykiss let’s not forget who fights these wars… young men and women. A war with Iran will quickly become a war with the entire Middle East. Trump will happily restart the draft to send everyone else’s kids to die (remember them? the “losers” — the ones who die or get captured) serving a military he bone-spurred his way out of.

@mcgrew but the “ai” isn’t writing anything. It’s making a statistical pastiche.

It’s the code equivalent of word salad and only gets the simplest of use cases only mostly correct and only then because it’s regurgitating chunks of other people’s code…

We need to stoping talking about these LLMs as though there’s any intent or design behind what they do. It’s not helpful or backed up by what these system actually do — it’s the fetishization of a SciFi trope.
