*very reasonable price, meaning <$500 and accepting offers. not cheap, unfortunately, but I always see the rack units going for $600 or more. and for an 8-voice analog/digital hybrid sampler/synth, <$500 still pretty ok, even compared to modern gear and not over-inflated vintage stuff.

that said, if you have the space for it, the keyboard version can be dirt cheap. watch local ads, not ebay. nobody wants to ship them, they’re massive, people just want you to haul them away.

these things are cool because they fall squarely in the realm of “they don’t make em like they used to.” the way people think about sampling in music has changed drastically since these were designed.

also because of the eight-stage envelopes (why are no modern manufacturers copying casio’s envelopes?!) and because of the SICK AS FUCK analog filters that sound so good I put some in my eurorack too.

if anyone is seriously considering buying this thing, just be aware that all patches are stored on floppies.

unlike a lot of synths from this era, it doesn’t need a floppy disk to boot though, which is nice. you can also install a floppy drive emulator and store everything to SD/USB though, if you’re DIY-oriented.

the interface is also pretty dated, most settings use a keypad/single data slider. but the big square LCD is way more luxurious than most synths from the same era!
