Why do so many who recognize that it's wrong to punish Israeli citizens for the sins of the regime still believe it's morally right to punish Palestinian citizens for the sins of Hamas?
I spent a fair amount of time working my algorithm. Now I get about 1/3rd booty pics (nice), 1/3rd political/academic stuff (ok, if I have to), and 1/3rd random shit (music, art, cats, moss for some goddamn reason). Mostly by working the hashtags I'm following.
So, I don't know how many people know this, but several Republican organizations, including the Heritage Foundation, Turning Point USA, the Family Policy Alliance, the American Conservative, and others are working with former Trump administration officials to develop a comprehensive plan to remake the entire federal government into Trump's image if he wins the election.
They published a playbook titled "Project 2025" this year in which they spell out how they're going to take on the "deep state" by stocking ever agency - FDA, State Department, DHS, USAID, EPA, NIH, etc. - with MAGA loyalists to cut every DEI program, end all support for LGBTQ+ people, eliminate food stamps, cut humanitarian aid to Palestinians, and so on.
All Republicans are at least as bad as Trump, if not worse.
FOR EXAMPLE: "Israel would allow funds from Qatar to flow back to Hamas. This was against the recommendation of much of his own security establishment.... Those funds were used by Hamas to build tunnels and stockpile weapons....
The Israeli security apparatus often wanted to go after the leadership of Hamas in a concerted way.... They were kept from doing so by Netanyahu — because he needed Hamas as his foil against the PA. He had no long-term strategic objectives, only short-term political ones.
With Hamas in power... Netanyahu could claim there was no Palestinian partner for negotiation, and he could continue to crisscross the West Bank with settlements."
Every Netanyahu supporter justifying the carnage as the "need" to get rid of Hamas should be ashamed of themselves, as you can only hold that position through willful ignorance or moral dishonesty.
I would like to remind everyone saying Netanyahu needs to get rid of Hamas, (hence the killing in Gaza), that Netanyahu has been propping up Hamas for *YEARS* and is still opposed to a functional government in Gaza post-Nakba II. If you're angry that the Palestinians haven't got rid of Hamas, you need to put some of the blame on Netanyahu.
I personally knew a few (albeit not many) Jewish people, including 2 directly from Israel, and none of them are defending Netanyahu. This idea that condemning Netanyahu = condemning Israeli people OR Jewish people is in no way a universal feeling among Israelis and non-Israeli Jewish people. There are a ton of Israeli pro-peace movements. The only people pushing the "Netanyahu = Israel = all Jewish people" are either ultra-rightist Zionists or anti-Semitic maniacs.
It does get more complicated by the fact that open and die-hard antisemites have been using the Palestinian cause to justify hating Jewish people.
In any case, it's clear that using Hamas as justification for ethnically cleansing Gaza will not bring peace either to Israel or the Palestinians, but it's a great way for Netanyahu and his maniac cabinet to centralize power.
As someone from the Global South, in a country that has suffered and been exploited by Spanish imperialism, British imperialism, and then US neoimperialism, I find it a bit amusing that the tone of this article is: "China is dangerously and alarmingly building bases and strongholds all over the world, some of which are close to OUR bases and strongholds!"
You see, only America gets to be a global superpower with imperialist reach.
(To forestall the certain bad faith arguments that are inevitable to pop up, I think Chinese imperialism is also bad).
My "favourite" thing about this study is the part where achaeologists who found hunting tools/weapons in women's graves assumed they were kitchen implements.
Like, "well Hans, in this woman's grave, we found what inscriptions at the time have named the Flail of Vengeance. As of right now, we are not sure to what culinary task this tool was turned, but conjecture that it was possibly the preparation of small pies."
I don't mean to be all political, but I do not think killing over 3,000 children, including premature babies, is the best way to show that you condemn terrorist violence.
Finally! Finished my drawing of @babe. As always, I want to recommend that everyone follow their profile and accounts. Not only are they a great photographer (and fantastic poser), they're generous enough to make their photos available for study. Plus - hedgehogs! What's not to love!
Fellow Black people - I know that in light of the #jacksonville killing, some people booed the white suprem-, er, Intellectually Diverse™ governor DeSantis of Florida, given his vocal and political support of white nationalism. However, as a Black community, we have to remember that protesting violent white supremacy sometimes makes white people feel sad! And angry! And isn't that really a kind of racism in itself, if you think about it?
Anyway, I'm happy to draw your attention to this helpful book, collecting all the wisdom of white Controversial Thinkers® like DeSantis and all those other bitch-faces about the best way to protest against racism. Compromise!
Made cornbread while simultaneously cleaning and attending an online meeting, and FORGOT TO ADD THE DAMN SUGAR, GODDAMMIT. Black Jesus, deliver me from this evil.
