@atomicpoet@kainoa Mastodon instances were hit with an attack a few months ago that behaved like that. It was caused by a series of domains with infinite subdomains posting mentions to others causing a recursion attack. See: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/21977
@atomicpoet it renders the local cache of the profile to make it so you can interact with it. Under normal circumstances this is the desired outcome. However, it would be nice to somehow manually indicate a link *should not* be directed to the local cache for edge cases like this.
