@atomicpoet @kainoa Mastodon instances were hit with an attack a few months ago that behaved like that. It was caused by a series of domains with infinite subdomains posting mentions to others causing a recursion attack. See: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/21977

@atomicpoet @fediversenews home.social is shutting down with only a few weeks notice, you’re probably seeing a spike due to migrations.

@atomicpoet it renders the local cache of the profile to make it so you can interact with it. Under normal circumstances this is the desired outcome. However, it would be nice to somehow manually indicate a link *should not* be directed to the local cache for edge cases like this.

@atomicpoet actually, on this post, it doesn’t direct to the local cache, only on the original post in question. I’m curious what you did differently for this one.
