Personally, I'd like to see you folks deal with hashtag abuse, when people use 10 or more hashtags in a post to spam as many people as possible. I cannot count the number of times I've seen posts totally unrelated to one of the hashtags I follow. That's a problem. How about solving that? (2/2)
@evan @jakebrake @mayintoronto
@evan @jakebrake @mayintoronto Yet every single time I use a hashtag I get a notification for each hashtag. Your system is obviously creating accounts for each hashtag.
I honestly don't understand why you think this is necessary when one of the benefits of mastodon over other systems is that you can easily follow hashtags. You are attempting to solve a problem that does not exist. (1/2)
@jakebrake @evan @mayintoronto I'm with you. No thank you. People can follow hashtags. Nobody is following the accounts that are set up to echo hashtags. It's a waste of bandwidth.
I've decided to fight back against the auto-boost hashtag #bots by using a shit-ton of #hashtags in all of my toots. #AIisWasteful #NoAI
I made my three calls. Have you made yours? #SaveDemocracy
@libreoffice I'm sorry, I can't. This was over a year ago. I've given up.
Understand that I wrote computer how-to books for a living for more than 20 years. I would typically get beta software without any documentation, figure it out, and write about it in a way that beginner to intermediate users understood. When I can't figure something out, there's probably something wrong.
And when the software doesn't act the way the documentation says it should, there's definitely something wrong.
@libreoffice I have attempted to give them a hand. I bought a copy of the printed manual; it's awful. I've tried participating in the forums and ran up against people who apparently have nothing better to do with their time than criticize the input of newcomers. I'm not willing to help people fix documentation that they apparently believe is perfect. (It's not.)
So I'll deal with it, glad that I no longer write for a living and have to spend more time with Writer than I do.
@libreoffice I'd really like it if you could rework the documentation or create a version of the documentation for Microsoft Word users. I've got 30 years of experience using Microsoft Word and recently switched to Libre Office. There are things I should be able to do in Libre Writer that I could easily do in word but I can't figure out how to do them in Writer. Your documentation and the forum that supports it falls far short of where it needs to be to support former Word users.
Well, I fixed my client's chartplotter and autopilot, and now the radar works right, too. And that weird noise when she used Heading Hold is gone. She was going to call a Garmin tech, so I guess I saved her at least $500. She is absolutely thrilled. Best of all, I showed her how to plot a course and let the autopilot steer it so she's up on the command bridge babysitting that while I stretch out on the bow. One hour left. #boating #Florida
I think the reason old timers like me talk so much about the good old days is because those days were so much better than the days we're in right now.๐
@gemlog @arstechnica @LoneLocust An AI probably wrote it.
@arstechnica @LoneLocust Maybe we need to redefine "normal" if 99% of the people are not "normal"?
It took me an hour and 20 minutes to make a reservation for one night at a campground at Salton Sea. Most of the time was spent waiting on hold: one hour and 10 minutes. For the first four minutes of the phone call, a recorded message told me three times to reserve my site on their website; this was not possible because all I got were error messages.
If you're going to tell people to use your website to get something done, they better be able to get it done.๐
Anyway, I was supposed to stay until Sunday or Monday but I think I might depart a little earlier. I can't shake this bad vibe. I did call the BLM number but, as expected, it went to the supervisor's voicemail. I left a message as a mature, concerned user. I don't want to be here when BLM starts locking the gate or turning off the water source. It will shatter so many of the people who rely on this place as their affordable winter destination. (3/3)
I'm feeling a weird vibe here at the Hot Springs. There was a note at the tubs yesterday stating that cleaning by volunteers would stop and that we should contact the local BLM office for more information. The rumor going around is that they're going to shut the place down. Apparently there are problems after hours and those problems are causing people to complain. BLM doesn't want to hear it so they'll just shut the whole thing down and kick all of us out. (1/3)
I need to stress here that this is a winter destination for dozens of retired folks and others who live on the road in RVs and other vehicles. The campground and tubs at the springs are meticulously maintained by volunteers. The place is clean and well kept. We pay a fee to stay here, so it does generate some revenue. All of the problems are apparently happening at night, with locals using and abusing the tubs. (2/3)
Well, I've made a plan for my return home and broke the news to my house sitter. He had originally planned to stay until month-end but it looks like I'm going to be home two weeks early. Due to the lack of snow (he's a skier), he doesn't seem to mind.
I'll stay here until Sunday, reposition everything to the Salton Sea State Park campground for an RV refresh, and then head up to Death Valley until the start of the holiday weekend. I should be home by Presidents' Day, if not sooner. #RoadTrip
Parked at the UPS Store when a #Cybertruck pulled in. When the idiot driving it got out, I pointed at my truck and said "THAT'S a real truck." To his credit, he agreed.
I did my part today. Will you do yours?
