Along the way, I learned that my truck has a towing capacity for a bumper pull of 17,500 pounds and that each of my five axles will be carrying approximately 4600 pounds. I also learned that I’m not allowed to drive from noon on Saturday until sunrise on Monday in several of the states I’m going through. And, after all this, I still have to get the permit for Wyoming myself. This is not fun.

With luck, the permits will start arriving in my email later today. Wish me luck. (3/3)

And here's a tip for the kitchen staff getting an extra 4% on my $17 cold smoked trout soba bowl: either use a smaller bowl so it looks like a whole meal or put more cabbage and soba noodles in the oversized paper bowl. OMG! This reminds me of a time years and years ago when I was traveling with a coworker and asked if he had any laundry he wanted to throw in with mine. (We were at a suites hotel for two weeks; separate suites, of course.) Unfortunately I had a pair of relatively new red socks in with several pairs of his tighty whities and a white T-shirt. Yeah, they came out pink. He had a shit ton of explaining to do with his wife.

For me, it’s about how much weight my truck can handle safely on long hauls. 2 full pallets of Pergo in the bed? 3600+ pounds of truck camper thousands of miles? Towing 15,000 pounds? I don’t care how physically large my truck is as long as it can do the job I need it to do. Today’s small trucks can’t.

But yes, most people don’t NEED a truck that can do these things. Please don’t criticize the people who do.

I’m just lucky it’s not my only vehicle. It’s a bitch to park.

Another Mastodon feature I'd like that the dead bird site had: the ability to leave a conversation.

Right now, I'm being dragged into a debate about why copyright is a bad thing. As an author, I am deeply offended by people who believe I shouldn't have the right to control distribution and use of my own intellectual property.

It looks like my only option is to block each person who continues the conversation so they can't refer to me on a go-forward basis. Is that by design?
