@darnell@manton There is a required wall between Automattic the registrar (e.g. where you buy a domain from) and Automattic the registry (who runs .blog) per ICANN rules.
The folks that run the registry have their own p2 network, Slack (IIRC), etc.
ICANN, rightfully so, puts in a lot of protections for a TLD available to the public.
GraphQL is a means to query a site used by developers. If you’re heard of the REST API, this performs a similar role in a different way that is more flexible.
@tim tbh, I don't know exactly the relationship. The primary developer was at WP Engine and they sponsored his time working on it (afaik). I don't know if they, themselves, were maintainers, etc.
But yeah, Jason is moving to a8c from WPE. As he says in the linked post "While [WPE] has treated me well personally, the focus on open-source contributions from the organization has declined during my time there. My time was also reallocated away from WPGraphQL…as internal initiatives took priority."
I am not wading into the conversation regarding WordPress, WP Engine, or any players. I’m too close, yet I know nothing about this. I have nothing valuable to add; frankly, I don’t have the bandwidth to develop deep enough knowledge to provide anything useful.
@chris@josephdickson That’s a bummer. I’ve enjoyed Bitwarden. My wife rolled with it because I kinda just didn’t give options lol. Granted, for a lot of her personal accounts, she just lets the browser suggest and save, but Bitwarden has anything shared.
@pfefferle@macmanx I don’t know usage information. The work I helped with 7 years ago was to remove it from Core because energy needed to be focused on Gutenberg. It could be worth it, especially if switching it to Gutenberg. It might need to be a separate editor, just a method to take from a bookmarklet and a block that grabs a remote URL, parsing it. (1/2)
I think it could be a very interesting quick post vector for social posts/activitypub, but needs a champion who feels passionate about spending time on it. (2/2)
@macmanx@pfefferle Not any real headway to note. I’d love to update it… I’m the closest thing it has to a maintainer and would gladly accept PRs in that direction. wordpress/press-this on GH.
Violence is not the answer. While the last thing I want for the United States is former President Trump to win another term, I condemn any violence against him. We don’t know what exactly happened just now at his rally, but I hope everyone is okay.
I don’t want him to be the president again, but this is not the way.
@chris I've taken to wearing undershirts no matter the shirt I'm wearing. I'm moving into the acceptance phase that I'm always going to be a sweaty mess from Memorial Day to Labor Day (at least).
Jetpack Social launched a Social Notes CPT as a simplified posting experience (no title, etc).Connected with the auto-publishing to social networks and the ActivityPub Fediverse native publishing through that plugin, this is a nice step closer to make it easier to make WordPress your personal home on the web.
@jimw Apologies for the radio silence. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I did not realize Firehose consumers had moved past social trend tracking and search engines getting notice of things to index. I’ve started discussions with the team regarding this and hope to announce something very soon, but didn’t want to leave this unresponded any longer than I already did.
We are winding down the Firehose. All current consumers are slated to lose access by the end of the mth.
@gregpak@jimw I'm awaiting finalization of the words, but we've audited and confirmed that LLMs did not get Jetpack data for training. It is part of our contract with all Firehose consumers that they can not redistribute to others without our permission (including Socialgist) and we do not grant access to companies for model training. AI is all the buzz so the AI we'd okay is for "trend analysis" or sentiment analysis things, that is a valid use (same since the feature launched).
👋 It's me again. I wanted to highlight that the Automattic post about the data sharing agreement has been updated to include, "We are not including content from sites hosted elsewhere even if they use Automattic plugins like Jetpack or WooCommerce."
