@Mondobizarrro it's weird because like, i don't wanna say it's a lower standard because i felt driven to do my absolute best (and i do think what i made was probably the coolest creative thing i've ever done), but the environment was a lot less judgmental because everyone else was also a creator and was intimately familiar with the struggle of feeling like their work wasn't good enough. it really helped me get out of my own head when i saw the other contributors going through the same hell i was when their stuff was clearly incredible. i still have this nagging feeling that i'm dragging down the zine somehow but that is of course the burden of the artcel
@neuvalis i'll try to explain myself as best i can
it feels like touhou managed to be a coherent counter-cultural online movement dating back to ronald mcdonald insanity and eosd posting on old imageboards. as is the case with any online movement that picks up steam, it was extremely flexible and has often been co-opted by losers such as chuds and heterosexuals. however, touhou has ultimately managed to avoid becoming irredeemably tied to these groups, unlike the imageboards that spawned it.
es/laincels/miladys are contemporary aspiring online counter-cultures. i have to give es some credit for building things with trauma which is cool, but at the same time i cannot really see it being helpful to anyone outside of a specific type of dysfunctional internet queers, so the idea ultimately feels too rigid to me. for laincels i guess my main issue is that no one seems to have come up with better interpretations of lain than "im sad and i like computer". miladys of course are dreadfully self-important and don't have any fun with it as a result.
touhou just doesn't really have these issues. its primary production via music, art, cosplay etc are creative and accessible while still being weird and eccentric especially outside of japan (to the point where "touhou hijacks", touhou appearing in Official Important things, is seen as funny). at the end of the day i think reimu is Our Guy (female)
@warmbeverageenjoyer Off topic but it's still fucking hilarious to me how you started this conversation with this meek "erm i don't think the lgbts are pedophiles, youre privileged and western, have you heard of keffals?" act only to pivot to this. Like what were you even doing lmao What was the idea. Anyway kill yourself
Sigmund Freud: Whoa...I think everyone is actually like this...Finally I solved psychoanalysis...
Deleuze and Guattari: Fuck you Oedipus Rex. Stupdi unrealistic story, tons of plot holes, this has never happened to anyone. If I saw this twink irl I would impale him with a stake. Phew...we really owned him. This must be how Don Quixote felt when he first defeated a "Windmills"

erinI’m like a week late on this but the thing about transhumanist stuff being inherently colonialist or whatever is silly, like I personally am invested in the topic of general AI which is *far* more polluted with Big Yud TESCREAL types who want a machine slave to make the markets go faster. But it’s because of this that having dissenting voices on the topic is actually *more* important. I’m not interested in ceding the entire future to the most boring people on the planet
