Zoomer in his mid 30s: You didn't use any more bad words in class today, right? I know those other kids can get on your nerves sometimes, but it's important to remember to keep a cool head and not sink to their level.
His 7 year old daughter Symmetra: (beaming) That's what I did Dad. When they kept saying six and seven even after the teacher told them to stop, I spoke up and said they were spiritally Isrally. After that they got really confused.
Zoomer: Very good. I'm so proud of you! Now, do you remember what that means?
Symmetra: Not really -

Sometimes I think about how awesome it is that I can make as many off-color jokes about dating an age regressor as I want, it costs nothing, I can just do it for free. But then I consider that the girls on Twitter dot com don't have this, because if they tried to do it then Team Hitler's Nazis would begin to gangstalk them. And that makes me a little bit sad. -

@FiringSquadsEnjoyer @Jazzcraft Another thing I wanted to mention: there’s a certain type of RW guy who hangs around in “ironyposting” online spaces with kids a decade younger than him (such as yourself) and has this extremely deliberate veneer where he tries to sound like the most chill, mature, well-read, detached, and level-headed person in the room, all while harboring these neurotic infantile fantasies about like, protecting an Arby’s from an inexplicably aggressive homeless guy, killing him slowly, and getting sucked off by the well-endowed waitress as a reward. These are the sleaziest people on the planet. If they come off to you as well-adjusted, it’s because that’s the entire point of their whole facade. -

@FiringSquadsEnjoyer @Jazzcraft I think this is like a being a teenager vs not being a teenager thing. Nearly all teenagers who are very active online are moralistic and miserable -

@Jazzcraft @voidandnil @GreyNA @azalea @zx I often talk on here about how much I hate art because it can feel so insubstantial, but even I have to admit that in lieu of any other worthwhile dynamism underpinning this instance, it's as good a place to start as any. Stuff like the music compilations and movie nights definitely feel like a step in the right direction.
Regarding the whole "social media" thing: the environment, in which mainstream, "low-effort" shitposts are the only things that get engagement, has been around ever since I joined almost four years ago and probably since the birth of the instance two years before that. A big reason why so many cool people left is because even back then, the instance felt too much like social media. Some of the most interesting perspectives I ever saw just got favorited by a couple people, generated no conversation, and then unceremoniously faded into obscurity. Even today, when someone links their Substack blog post or whatever on here, no one actually replies.
It's important to put in the effort not just to post the types of things you'd like to see, but also send the types of replies you'd like to receive. Engage with what other people are doing in a meaningful way, even if you don't think what they've made is all that interesting or you don't understand it very well. What made people like lilli or otherworlder (hope they're having good days) so amazing wasn't just the things they'd get up to, but the ways in which they'd reach out and connect with the people around them. It's difficult to keep this up when replies can so often fizzle into nothing and most of the people on here aren't all that social, but I'd argue that with the perspective of what's at stake, that makes it all the more important to continue.
This place has gotten big and full of sub-communities where before we didn't have much of anything tying us together. I'm glad the girls are finding companionship on here, but to me xenofemme was never about what specific sect you're in or what friends you have, it's about how you as an individual confront and embody the incomprehensible yet vitally important void past the edge of reason and knowing and consciousness and society. You can read, or write, or seek out art, or make art, or engage in fast-and-loose discussions, or even just think to yourself, but the important thing is that you start somewhere. After all, you're the only person who can make this place not just another social media platform. -

@monkey We need an Andrew Tate of yuri. Something that'll really inspire the lesbians across the world to keep going, keep putting in the hours. You need to know the difference between a 9/10 kiss and a 10/10 kiss, and to never, ever settle for less. We need yuri where the girls hustle to such an extent that they die from overstressing themselves and then get reincarnated as flowers or some shit. Basically I'm thinking like Heaven Will Be Mine mixed with Whiplash -

There is no more toxic yuri to be created. The space has been entirely filled out. It's over. -

fine movie i guess, i thought the book was much better. watching the "i've seen things you people wouldn't believe" was funny, but ultimately the book just does a much better job actually contrasting the androids with the humans. rick deckard and the androids have nothing to say to each other because rick is an insignificant, misogynistic shell of a man, so all the cinematic confrontations between him and the androids feel like they go against the whole point of the story. cutting isidore out of the film entirely to replace him with Quirky Gadget Guy was also a completely fucking ridiculous decision that, again, felt tailored to stupid, action-hungry audiences.
the setting in the film is notably much more cosmopolitan than the book's version, but this feels like a mostly inconsequential detail. also, the androids just aren't humanized nearly as much in the film as they are in the book. the scene in the book where they're just fucking around and killing a spider honestly felt not too far off from some of the times i've hung out with other queer and mentally ill people (obviously we wouldnt actually kill any spiders but its about the vibe). roy is such a fucking good character when he's just some guy instead of The Most Importantest Specialest Boy with an oedipus complex added in cause why not. but the film treats it like the fate of the world is at stake, which i think is the core of my issue with it: blade runner / do androids dream of electric sheep is fundamentally an insignificant and worthless story about insignificant and worthless people. this should have been a $1000 budget film shot in crumbling buildings with a shaky camera and inconsistent lighting. -

Does anyone know good books or other resources about the mental development of children? It's a topic I've been meaning to read up on for a while now. -
