@Jazzcraft @voidandnil @GreyNA @azalea @zx I often talk on here about how much I hate art because it can feel so insubstantial, but even I have to admit that in lieu of any other worthwhile dynamism underpinning this instance, it's as good a place to start as any. Stuff like the music compilations and movie nights definitely feel like a step in the right direction.

Regarding the whole "social media" thing: the environment, in which mainstream, "low-effort" shitposts are the only things that get engagement, has been around ever since I joined almost four years ago and probably since the birth of the instance two years before that. A big reason why so many cool people left is because even back then, the instance felt too much like social media. Some of the most interesting perspectives I ever saw just got favorited by a couple people, generated no conversation, and then unceremoniously faded into obscurity. Even today, when someone links their Substack blog post or whatever on here, no one actually replies.

It's important to put in the effort not just to post the types of things you'd like to see, but also send the types of replies you'd like to receive. Engage with what other people are doing in a meaningful way, even if you don't think what they've made is all that interesting or you don't understand it very well. What made people like lilli or otherworlder (hope they're having good days) so amazing wasn't just the things they'd get up to, but the ways in which they'd reach out and connect with the people around them. It's difficult to keep this up when replies can so often fizzle into nothing and most of the people on here aren't all that social, but I'd argue that with the perspective of what's at stake, that makes it all the more important to continue.

This place has gotten big and full of sub-communities where before we didn't have much of anything tying us together. I'm glad the girls are finding companionship on here, but to me xenofemme was never about what specific sect you're in or what friends you have, it's about how you as an individual confront and embody the incomprehensible yet vitally important void past the edge of reason and knowing and consciousness and society. You can read, or write, or seek out art, or make art, or engage in fast-and-loose discussions, or even just think to yourself, but the important thing is that you start somewhere. After all, you're the only person who can make this place not just another social media platform.

@voidandnil @azalea @GreyNA @zx I think it's up to the longer term members to lead by example. I notice a direct uptick in people engaging in theory when there's a new nyxpost. That being said I've always felt this was more of an art movement than an academic space, some sorta pseuo-hybrid or w/e idk. Like I've always been here primarily for cultural reasons and artistic influence despite having an interest in theory I personally keep my distance from most theory discussions bc it just feels like recycling dead old guy ideas a lot of the time. A curated reading xnfm reading list might make for a good pool for ppl to keep their beaks wet in but ye is not up to people like me ultimately, it's easier for us to wash out when not embraced & called /tttt/ slurs.

@azalea @GreyNA @zx i feel like it's just going to be a massive effort to actually catch ppl's attention. and again i have no idea what to talk about. idk how many ppl do. honestly some of the better discussions on here come from very well-read ppl coming into a conversation and writing massive paragraphs, but idk if everyone can do that. it definitely seems like an interesting idea...

i've been scratching my head at this a lot bc i've heard the complaint often that nothing gets done on xnfm anymore but also i don't wanna lose the social space for likeminded trannies xnfm has become. i think it's special regardless of what exactly is going on but i don't want it to get so stale that nobody wants to talk theory and ppl start leaving. i'm very proud of xnfm and its userbase, i just hope we all care enough to keep it special.

i'm still trying to learn a lot abt kink atm. maybe if i read enough i could write more abt it... i don't really like discoursing, especially on a more massive open scale, so i'm antsy abt it. just very fatigued with the state of things especially after coming out of an eye-opening situation

@GreyNA @zx the non-algorithmic nature of fedi is cool but it feels like it disincentivizes larger discussion because whatever potential reader doesn't feel like reading walls of text during whatever daily scroll and then it gets lost forever and nothing changes

@GreyNA @zx idk what to do about it. i have literally nothing interesting to say. i doubt people want to have to constantly engage with things when they do it all the time already. our best theoryposters r gone or otherwise relatively docile. i have no idea what can be done aside from the personal discipline to at least not braindump and vent all the time

@voidandnil @zx ive only been here for alittle bit, and i was hoping for a healthy and thoughtful alternative to mainstream social media. But even in the short time ive been here Ive gotten the feeling its very similar to most of the braindump you find online now a days... Doesnt mean i dont think a platform like this isnt capable of intelligent conversation, just that it continues to get harder to keep from getting distracted.

@zx kinda... i hear ppl complain often it's not the space it used to be and i kinda agree. i think it has inherited a lot of the bad habits from social media generally. i see less serious helpful thought-provoking discussion and a lot more drama (although it can be hard to separate the two depending on levels of maturity and the sensitivity of the topic(s) at hand). i like talking to people on here and being social but i dunno i understand the complaints being made
