I’m trying to upgrade a MacPro 6,1 trashcan with a new 4TB SSD. I updated the machine to 10.14 while the original Apple SSD was installed so it updated the firmware to recognize non-Apple SSDs. After installing the new SSD, the OS I want to use (Yosemite 10.10) no longer recognizes the SSD. Later OSes will.
OMG you guys, the instant thermal printer camera just got better! If you remove the SD card and plug it in with a USB cable* to your computer, it presents itself as a UVC compliant web cam! Look your best in your next Zoom or Teams meeting! 📷 😎
Some prints from the $32 thermal printing kids camera thing so you can see the output closeup. I’m surprised by the dynamic range of the prints from just a monochrome printer doing error dithering.
Normal application window (now fixed to add an actual title bar): shows a centered title. Great! ✅
Mac Finder window: let's stick the title somewhere to the left-ish and remove the title bar. Oh, and the folder icon appears/disappears on mouse over ❌
Yeah the info is there, but inconsistent in placement and needs more time to locate/grok when scanning the screen = more cognitive load than before.
Are there any hacks to modern MacOS 14 that forces windows to have an actual title bar at the top of them? You know, an area that contains the application title or document title and allows you to move is easily?
For instance, with Firefox and lots of tabs open, the window itself has no tittle bar at the top. Moving the window is difficult and only possible on the far left or right of the top of the window. It also doesn't identify itself.
I just don't get this UI trend of hiding useful things like title bars, scroll bars, window outlines, etc. It's not like we're using small displays anymore. There's plenty of room.
Ok, I caved and bought that $32 “instant” digital camera that prints on thermal paper.
It’s a weird and wonderful shitty camera. The printer is pretty good, using error diffusion dithering but a bit slow. It’s apparently a 12MP camera that can also do 1080p video on the included 32GB SD card. Obs targeted at kids with the built in filters but there’s something about the immediateness that’s fun about it. Wonder how hackable it is?
Say Hello, World! to the new-to-me Macintosh Portable. This is the fancy backlit version (M5126). More luggable than laptop weighing in at 16 lbs. It’s just such a beast of a machine.
It comes with this even larger travel case with room for lots of extra gear.
Let’s look inside the #MacintoshPortable, a marvel of all plastic engineering. It contains no screws and requiring only a flat head screw driver to disassemble it. It’s also nerve wracking for fear of breaking brittle plastic.
The back holds the lead acid battery on the left and the right your choice of HD/FD or 2 FDs.
Here I’ve installed a #BlueSCSI V2 desktop along with the 50 to 34 pin SCSI adapter.
