Regarding point 2, this is something interesting I found about eating out in Taiwan. Probably 90% of the meals I eat out are at street stands or little mom and pop hole-in-the-wall places and there’s almost never a raw vegetable in sight (unless you’re meant to cook it in a hotpot). But when I meet friends in a fancy upscale restaurant, there’s usually a salad. Even if the cuisine is not western. It’s like raw lettuce is considered a delicacy.

I finally made it back to the Palace Museum in Taipei, and the famed “Jadeite Cabbage with Insects” was on loan to another museum. 😢 I had to settle for the “Jadeite Cabbage-Shaped Flower Holder,” which was nice, but it just gives me “We have Jadeite Cabbage at home” vibes. 😂

I kid, I kid. The museum was spectacular, this piece included.

Never thought I’d be one to miss yard work, but after a few months of apartment living, my wife asked if I’d be willing to drive down to Pingtung to clean out my late mother-in-law’s neglected courtyard garden.

Willing? I was enthusiastic 🤩 The cleanup went well; hope I get invited back for the planting.

My niece is a whiz at #basketball. She plays for her college team in #Taiwan When she shows up at a park where no one knows her, sometimes the boys are reluctant to team up with her. It’s fun to watch their faces as they slowly realize she is undeniably the best player on the court.

In my personal opinion, only idealists have any motivation to even try to make things better. They face a steady barrage of obstacles from cynics but they try anyway, which makes them the strongest people around.

I think I tend towards cynicism naturally, but it’s something I try to avoid.
