@patrickcmiller this is kinda vague about the “several high profile hacking incidents”.
I read another article that said it was because a botnet was largely made up of tplink devices, which seems predictable given its popularity and that the botnet *probably* used one exploit to get most of the devices.
@patrickcmiller I like how it starts off with their growing market share and then tells us the concern started when MS found most of the routers in a botnet being tplink.
@patrickcmiller “used his personal computer to make internet searches about the attack, with some indicating his concerns that the FBI was investigating him.
These searches included, "how can i know for sure if I am being investigate by the FBI" and "What are the signs that you are under investigation by law enforcement of the FBI even if you have not been contacted by them".”
@patrickcmiller “The committee, chaired by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), highlighted that amid the system's collapse, de la Torre was paid at least $250 million, bought a $40 million yacht, and owned a $15 million luxury fishing boat. Meanwhile, Steward executives jetted around on two private jets collectively worth $95 million.”
@patrickcmiller oh wow this was not their first rodeo… that’s messed up.
“LVHN has experience in this area. Back in July 2022 the medical group confirmed it had been the victim of a similar ransomware attack that affected 75,628 patients. It appears sufficient precautions were not taken to stop a repeat – which is unusual given that the medical sector is a prime target for ransomware scumbags.”
@patrickcmiller could be good, if people were talking to a carefully prompted AI like in the study, but I suspect most don’t have those constraints.
“2190 Americans articulated—in their own words—a conspiracy theory in which they believe, along with the evidence they think supports this theory. They then engaged in a three-round conversation with the LLM GPT-4 Turbo, which we prompted to respond to this specific evidence while trying to reduce participants’ belief in the conspiracy theory”
