I worry that the policies and procedures become an end unto themselves, for checkbox compliance.

Your observation can be explained by thinking there are robust security cultures, and weak ones, and the robust ones both understand the value of having and following frameworks, and also have good practice. But it's not clear to me that the frameworks cause the practice.

The culture causes both.

#infosec professionals. Do you ever feel like we've gone 2 or 3 levels too meta in our field?

What I mean is, actually securing a business with 2FA, password managers, and code reviews for #OWASP top 10 issues all seem practical, and useful.

But once we get into "Cyber Security Frameworks" and iso-27001 audits, and a bunch of GRC (Governance) stuff, it feels...abstract, to the point of being work for work's sake, and not for actually getting the result of improved security.

Wife proceeds to start the shower hose and attempts to clean the cat, without informing me of this plan.

Proceeds to my involuntary blood donation. Ouch!

End result, very damp, but less pee covered cat. Band aid and Neosporin applied to my wrist.

A friend claims that the animatronics in #Disney "it's a small world" ride aren't turned off at night, to keep the hydraulics from seizing up.

So, while you sleep, they are silently waving around in the dark, singing with mute voices, to each other.

What a great set for a horror movie.

There is a fine line between between enjoying it, and criticizing it for "not making sense".

It's like the difference between a good bad movie, and a bad bad movie.

Riding in passenger seat in the car, looking at my phone, and some nearby car (a #Tesla) tried to Bluetooth pair with me.

It nominally had the owners's name in the pairing request. That's a #privacy and #infosec problem.

I denied the request, of course, but was really tempted to accept, then play "Baby Shark" out their speakers.

Even the #LMM 's are on our side on this one. I had one create a fictional persona of an "average American" and it came up with a cisgendered midwest father of two, mildly conservative, that I could ask questions of. "He" fixes cars.

llama3-70b has internalized some of our more idealistic self-myths, of the US, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

Reminds me of a #ttrpg I ran, part inspired by Red Dwarf (an abandoned ship as big as a city) crossed with Jack Chalkers "Well of Souls" books.

Earth demons were real, an advanced alien species, and imprisoned on their ship. Ship AI wanted to free them.

Demons were large, so their hand control was huge. Party referred to it as the "command banana" as they carried this black basalt 4 foot rock about, not understanding how it worked.
