Marx calling religion the "opiate of the masses" must be taken in the historical context of when he wrote it. Opium was not seen the same in 1843 as it is now.

Unfortunately, comrades tend to zero in on that one portion, rather than its entirety, and do not consider the greater context.

The Deprogram boys had a brief chat about the USSR's suppression of religion being one of the grand failures of that state that led to its downfall. Ep 7, worth a listen.

I'm for left unity to defeat the common enemy, the primary contradictions of our time that threaten human existence, and sorting out our secondary differences once that is achieved.

But it's a tough sell, convincing Trots to bury the icepick, MLs to work with Trots and Maoists, Anarchists to overcome COINTELPRO... it's a lot. 2/2

If you're open to it, please read Luxemburg's "Reform or Revolution". Socialism will not be won by reforms, which under capitalism are mere concessions that can and will be withdrawn when they are no longer profitable or expedient to maintain. See current attacks on hard won queer rights in the west.

Reforms that ease life for those in the imperial core, while important, are won on the backs of the exploited global working class. We can do better.

@Radical_EgoCom Numbers are still evolving, so I don't know where it'll stop... but I'm not sure this can really be laid on third party and abstainers. The gap from last election's voter turnout numbers has dropped to ~5.5m.

Assuming all of those 5.5m were abstaining Democrat votes, or leftists, isn't very realistic.

My grandfather died two days ago because someone, knowingly or not, went shopping while positive for COVID-19.

Since COVID can be spread asymptomatically, and since I'm one of very few masks I still see in the wild, this someone likely wasn't wearing one.

If COVID spreads asymptomatically, and you can't or won't avoid crowded places, wear a mask. Please.

Please. This isn't over. Your case may be minor, and if you're lucky, you won't have any or many lasting consequences. But all it takes is passing it to one wrong person to start a chain of infection that can kill.

Please, from what little spell slots I have left at this point, wear a fucking mask if you can't or won't avoid crowded places. My grandfather was vital before his infection, and had years left to live.
