@Moon@denza252 yeah maybe bc stats. but honestly youll be throwing out all of chao gardens core mechanics to use pokemon mechanics anyways, assuming you have more than one species. and for an RPG, youre bringing the party mons with you and getting stat growth through battle, so whats the point of keeping them in the garden if youre not using them? unless if you remove the RPG, garden only and you can get food for them from something else, then battle other players? idk.
breeding in general is an odd mechanic, idk how you balance it, maybe give mons a lifespan and require players to breed to keep them around? but babies will start at level 1 and have to regrind them again, annoying and unfun. SMT fusion fixes this by making the offspring be different and potentially more powerful while inheriting previous abilities.
@Moon@denza252 it was pretty simple. each animal has a set of body parts and would assign a random one to the chao when fed, plus some set stat growth. the colored rods would improve one stat. doing activities (boxing, racing) would use these stats. good/evil would be based on which character treats them nice/poorly. there were some scripted evolutions based on some requirements which made it feel more dynamic than it really was. as much as ppl wanted it to be a standalone big game it was really very simple and just a side mode you check in on every once in a while.
