@adaddinsane @teemuki I’ve had only a passing interest in Campbell and the hero’s journey as an academic, but it’s interesting to think how this kind of theory can influence the world and become a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

I’ve read a couple of academic articles on blockchain recently for a project. Not an expert by any means, but blockchain as a sociotechnical phenomenon mostly confuses me. It’s supposedly simultaneously relevant and worth constructing research agendas for, and also a big joke and a solution in search of a problem. Same thing as with AI: how on Earth to distinguish the hype and bullshit from the actually relevant stuff?

Any guesses as to who’s the next Western man with a short and memorable name that everybody will be talking about?

At least the centralisation of wealth, power, and influence seemingly make the world simpler. You just have to remember a 4 to 5 letter name and follow their actions rather than keeping on top of multiple unfolding global crises...
