It beats firewalls, it has headers for metadata, it has end to end encryption (as long as the application front-end doesn't strip it), etc.

@lanodan I'm sure no one would use websockets to send whole-page payloads over the wire to be rendered. To do so would be to abandon the time-tested OSI model to create forced-flexibility in higher level protocols.

It's protocol ossification and replication all the way down and up.
