hey y'all
does anyone have resources for how to attend protests safely if disabled + dependent on medication?
i know on some level the answer is "harp, you are not cleared for front line duty for reasons", which is both true and also a luxury we might not be able to hold onto for much longer.
resources about what to bring in a medical kit also gratefully received. i may not be able to get to the level of field medic that riot medicine hopes but i do have a boondoggle of an idea of how to carry supplies in my sign. i have a good mental checklist of things i want to bring, from medical supplies (glucose tablets, saline mix packets, electrolyte drink tablets, alcohol swabs, bandaids and plain gauze squares + coban self-adhesive wraps with bandage scissors, nonlatex gloves, extra paper face masks) to things that aren't quite first aid but are nonetheless very useful (pads + tampons, sunscreen, bug repellant wipes, sample single-serving packets of lip balm bc yeah they make those and that's probably the easiest way to just. hand a stranger some lip balm lol, yeah i know i am ending up with a lot of single-serving plastic-wrapped products that i know can be seen as wasteful but sometimes those single-serving plastic-wrapped containers are pretty useful in certain situations)
i may not be able to be immediately useful as a proper field medic - having a very fuckin bad shoulder is limiting in certain ways, and i'm planning to straight-up wear my post-surgical brace primarily as a reminder to me to not fuck myself over - but i am willing to put some time and investment into being a useful resource for those field medics and for others at the protest. so if you've got resources in that direction, especially lists of "obscure things you might not think of but you'll be at the march going Oh But For Want Of A Nail about it later", please toss 'em at me!
