You should try the 80+ year old doorknobs I've stubbornly left on a couple outside doors (backed up with modern deadbolts) on our early 1940s house. Add on the old wooden doors swollen by our damp coastal climate, settling foundations that have taken everything slightly out of square, and you've got a grand time every instance you have to open one of these things.

I really like Hank Green, and this turn really bothers me. I don't even want to investigate it too closely because I know it's going to change how I feel about his stuff.

Today is my 42nd anniversary. I can't speak for my wonderful wife, Chris, but for me, this is the answer to life, the universe, and everything. I wouldn't trade away the worst day of it.

If you're wondering how bad a problem AI slop is for the book publishing industry, just learned (via a company VP) that traditional book distributor Ingram has been screening their system for AI since late 2020, and they have removed or rejected 4-5 MILLION titles to date! This is terrifying!

I've set up a second Mastodon account as JSteven@wandering.shop. I don't plan to drop this one, but my activities here have gotten so news-driven and political that some days it was hurting my mental health. I'm a Creative at heart, and that's my joy. Hopefully JSteven will be focused more on more writing, photo-cartooning, making, photography and that Joy I'm talking about. Meanwhile, this account isn't going away. Hope some of you will follow "other me!"

Here on the west coast, we're still an hour from close of polls (Or in our case in Oregon, drop boxes.) Only one item on our ballot, a tax measure to support the local veterans center, but my wife and I considered it very important to participate in this election. (Of course, I voted yes.)

If there's a way to trick Firefox or Chrome into doing this by default, I haven't found it. Firefox has a SETTING for it, but when you add the site, it insists it's an incorrect URL and I need to fix it. Chrome just has check boxes for "popular" search engines, and no visible URLs at all. There may be something farther down in the weeds to enter it manually, but I haven't found it yet if so.

I just tried to enter which I consider to be an important story about something that happened today that was far beyond the limitations of this instance's standard 4## character limit. I decided I would enter it as a thread, and started to compose. I was a bit emotional and hard. I realized I had broken the thread. I tried to fix it. Made it worse. Deleted everything. Oh, wait, here comes the character limit...

This sign about where the stop sign has moved and the stop sign that it is referencing, have been in this location for many years, possibly eight years or more. It, and the stop sign it references, are on Highway 101 in front of a Goodwill store.
It serves no purpose now except to cause confusion, and it isn't clear, since it is on the same post as the stop sign, what purpose it may EVER have served...

Because she loves to drink from the similarly curved faucet in the bathroom next door, I just installed this new cat fountain for Notty cat. So far she has sniffed it, but is mostly indifferent. She is a cat, after all. Hopefully she'll warm up to it. If not, I'll try removing the spigot, which should result in a bubbling spring effect she may find more acceptable. I can always reinstall the pipe later.

I don't know anything, but I'm pretty sure those buttons represent the rods in a nuclear reactor. There are a few different colors that mean something. I'll bet those red ones are important. Not hard at all for somewhat with actual knowledge to understand. Knowing what to DO with the buttons is likely a whole different thing.

I'm as amused as anyone by the stories of Tesla (especially Cybertruck) harassment and vandalism. But I think it's important to remember that a lot of people bought them for environmental reasons, and just destroying these cars would be an environmental mistake. The enemy here isn't EVs, it's the man Elon, his friends, and what he stands for. Go after NEW sales to hurt his income. Give current drivers SOME benefit of the doubt.

Are manual transmissions still a thing there? They're almost extinct in the US.
(But yeah on the poor Tesla quality and the much better options out there...)
