Because she loves to drink from the similarly curved faucet in the bathroom next door, I just installed this new cat fountain for Notty cat. So far she has sniffed it, but is mostly indifferent. She is a cat, after all. Hopefully she'll warm up to it. If not, I'll try removing the spigot, which should result in a bubbling spring effect she may find more acceptable. I can always reinstall the pipe later.

I don't know anything, but I'm pretty sure those buttons represent the rods in a nuclear reactor. There are a few different colors that mean something. I'll bet those red ones are important. Not hard at all for somewhat with actual knowledge to understand. Knowing what to DO with the buttons is likely a whole different thing.

I'm as amused as anyone by the stories of Tesla (especially Cybertruck) harassment and vandalism. But I think it's important to remember that a lot of people bought them for environmental reasons, and just destroying these cars would be an environmental mistake. The enemy here isn't EVs, it's the man Elon, his friends, and what he stands for. Go after NEW sales to hurt his income. Give current drivers SOME benefit of the doubt.

Are manual transmissions still a thing there? They're almost extinct in the US.
(But yeah on the poor Tesla quality and the much better options out there...)

Another cool piece of retro tech from my local Habitat for Humanity store, a Revere 16mm sound film projector. Love All the metal with baked paint and the lovely case with a speaker behind the fancy grill and a hidden compartment for wires and accessories. Very nice for the time. Love it, but no place for it. Would be great in somebody's theater room or indie theater lobby.

Because we can't be there every minute, yesterday I bought a toy with felt tassels on the end of a piece of elastic with a pull ring on the other end. I looped it over a small bench vice where it hung down to 18" or so over the floor. I went back a few hours later and it was gone. I found it intact under a wadded up rug she likes to play on. So I CLOSED the vice over the loop. But this morning, only the severed end of the elastic hung down. I found the rest of it outside my wife's office door...

Not My Cat with her favorite toy. Two nights ago, after play time I collapsed the telescoping pole, rolled up the string, palmed the bird, and hid it on top of a bookcase behind a finger print kit on display there (my wife writes mystery). But by morning, she had found a way up, closed the lid on the kit, and was dragging the toy, string trailing, all over the building! This cat is trouble...

Bought this lineman's (guys that climb poles) phone for five bucks at the Habitat for Humanity store. No idea what to do with it (I haven't had a landline for a decade) but the 70s-80s sci-fi aesthetic is wonderful. I can just imagine picking it up and hearing Han Solo's death star intercom conversation coming out. Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?

USCG helicopter and a large boat this afternoon off Depoe Bay, Oregon. Not sure what's going on. Just a Coast Guard exercise maybe, but not sure.

Do you know any good organizations assisting immigrants who can't afford a lawyer get legal help? If so, seems like they might be a good place to boost and support right now.
In my experience, in things of this importance, it's always better to have a lawyer involved.
Years ago, a Canadian friend was working for Microsoft in Redmond, and they had a TEAM of lawyers that handled all his paperwork. All he had to do was sign things. But that everyone could be so lucky. Sigh.

I am so tired of "Manly Man" advertising. I get tons of it on YouTube lately. Growly voice: "You're a MAN! And you do MANLY things, and have MANLY things, because it's MANLY, and you're a MAN! Mostly clothing brands and personal care/grooming. For such CONFIDENT MANLY MEN, these guys spend a LOT of time reassuring themselves and everyone in ear shot that they're a MAN. Insecure much? In MANLY kind of insecurity, of course.

Airwolf could definitely go supersonic. Online sources claim mach 2, but I didn't think it was quite that fast. My late dad was a Bell Helicopter field service rep on the Bell 222 (the then new helicopter they dressed up for the show). He actually visited the set to consult. He was bored and cared nothing about Hollywood or celebrity, and so brought us NO souvenirs! I don't think he even took pictures!

I've only been here a while, but I've come to believe that Mastodon and the Fediverse are the only hopes for social media as the gathering place for the free exchange of talents and ideas that we idealistically imagined with dial up BBSs back in the 80s. Makes me sad to see people wake up enough to finally leave X and blindly follow the other sheep to Threads and Bluesky. Mastodon is the way.

Mastodon is notoriously a difficult place for new users to establish themselves and learn their way around. Now, of all times, it is important for us to throw our doors open and welcome newcomers. Bashing them through transgressions of rules they don't yet understand isn't helpful. Friendly reminders to help them understand may be. And most of all help them find their People. Finding some folks have a very incorrect impression of #Mastodon.

Confession: Big hairy me used the ladies room at a restaurant the other day. The men's room was full of men banging (they were replacing the stall dividers and door for whatever reason) so it was necessary. My wife DID stand vigil at the door to warn anyone headed in, but nobody else showed. It was just a bathroom, without urinals. I tried to be very careful with my aim. No big deal. I emerged unscathed. Sorry Republicans, the world did not end...
