@jstevenyork @colo_lee @ai6yr the media often claim that young people want EV's - this isn't the case, they might use an EV in driving school but they just want cars with auto 'boxes and what is happening is all the slightly older automatic cars the Boomers sell to get EV's are still on the road (its not at all uncommon uncommon to see a younger driver in an automatic BMW, Mercedes C series or Ford Mondeo these days, at one point these were "middle aged folk" cars)

@vfrmedia @colo_lee @ai6yr
Are manual transmissions still a thing there? They're almost extinct in the US.
(But yeah on the poor Tesla quality and the much better options out there...) -

@jstevenyork @colo_lee @ai6yr many older cars are manual, although 30% of cars in UK are now automatic, and its an increasing trend in busier towns and cities (especially as you get closer to London) for young people to learn in and drive automatic cars.
Unlike USA if you pass your road test in an automatic you cannot drive a manual without taking another test, but this is less of a hardship for middle class young people who are going to buy an automatic for their first car anyway

@colo_lee @jstevenyork @ai6yr in Britain comparatively few EVs (Tesla or other brands) are bought solely for environmental reasons (it might be a secondary factor in some cases). They are bought by middle class older folk who prefer cars with automatic transmissions rather than driving stick, and have garages or driveways where they can change at home (and maybe solar power). Tesla are becoming less popular here, simply because they aren't very good cars and many better ones are available..

@ai6yr
I'm as amused as anyone by the stories of Tesla (especially Cybertruck) harassment and vandalism. But I think it's important to remember that a lot of people bought them for environmental reasons, and just destroying these cars would be an environmental mistake. The enemy here isn't EVs, it's the man Elon, his friends, and what he stands for. Go after NEW sales to hurt his income. Give current drivers SOME benefit of the doubt.

@jstevenyork @ai6yr I honestly doubt many people at all bought cyber trucks for environmental reasons. Other teslas yes. But the cybertruck has always been a gender-affirming tool for the insecure.
Granted, destroying them causes more short term environmental harm than continuing to operate them. However, destroying them might cause less longterm harm as it helps to bring musk down ...
