I think the saddest acceptance I have over what happened this week is the knowledge that the social media landscape is going to be a cratered wasteland for the next few years.

A repeat of the sort of upheaval we went through online in 2016 is not something I'm interested in reliving either on Mastodon or any other site or service.

I have today off and plan to spend it as far away from this utter fucking shitshow as I possibly can.

Gurman's latest missive about the Mac mini as a gaming console has me thinking:

Apple is never, ever going to make a system that game developers, publishers, and gamers will *ever* flock to.

Doesn't matter how capable the hardware is or well-tuned the software is. Apple changes its mind, deprecates APIs, and ratfucks the market. It's happened over and over again.

Apple is not now, and never has been, a company that takes games seriously as part of its core mission.

After I had an Apple Store demo of the Vision Pro I spent a while trying fruitlessly (no pun intended) trying to figure out when I would really need that device, then my washing machine broke and I had to go to the laundromat.

I read a piece about the "epidemic of loneliness" apparently sweeping people my age and I have thoughts.

I accept that making and staying in touch with friends doesn't come as easy in this part of life as it did when I was younger. But there's something to be said for solitude, also.

My inward life is so much more important to me now, and I experience it the most profoundly in those moments of stillness.
