    Hundreds of Kent corner shops and takeaways hold government licences which are intended for recruiting skilled workers from abroad, it has been revealed.

    Analysis of Home Office data by the Local Democracy Reporting Service found about 2,000 businesses and organisations across the county hold visa sponsor licences.

    This includes more than 200 restaurants, takeaways and cafes, plus almost 250 corner shops, mini-markets and convenience stores – with 95% of licences being for the skilled worker route.

    Weald of Kent MP Katie Lam says the findings showed the immigration system is being used in "absurd" ways, while immigration experts argued the situation was more nuanced.

    Lam said the skilled worker visa was intended for people with specialist skills who make a "major contribution", not to "bring people into low-skilled roles".

    Charlotte Green, who lives next to Hillsborough Park, said incidents were happening on an almost "daily basis".

    "We've had gangs of lads, all faces all wrapped up, on bicycles tearing down the street at midnight throwing rocks and smashing cars. "It's upsetting for all of us but what would the police do, chase kids on bikes?" John Watkins has been the manager of Hillsborough Exchange Shopping Centre for 15 years.

    He has shared CCTV footage with police of youths riding through his centre. "They're using bikes to travel around with hats on and masks to shield their identity and causing mayhem throwing eggs at people in cars," he said.

    Local councils and Airbnb have begun sharing data to identify the illegal subletting of social homes on the short-term rental platform.

    The scheme, coordinated by the Cabinet Office's fraud team, external, allows councils to cross-check social housing records against Airbnb listings in an effort to tackle what the government calls "social housing fraud."

    It is suspected nearly 6,000 social homes in England are illegally sublet on short-term rental platforms, according to the Tenancy Fraud Forum, a not-for profit organisation.

    Early results suggest 470 cases of social housing fraud have been identified so far across participating local authorities, with offenders facing penalties including eviction, fines and up to two years in prison.

    However, some campaign groups say tackling illegal subletting will have "very little impact on the acute housing crisis."

    🙄 https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/q-manivannan-owns-250k-luxury-37402701

    The "queer Tamil", who has been elected to Holyrood despite only being in the UK on a student visa, has previously been criticised for presenting themselves as having grown up "starving", when in fact they had a privileged upbringing. In their register of interests, Manivannan – a man who identifies he is non-binary and asks to be addressed as "they/them" – declares: "I own a house in India with a market value of between £200,001 and £250,000 from which I receive no income." Despite this, Edinburgh and Lothian East MSP previously "begged for cash" from Green members to pay for a global talent visa in order to allow them to remain in the UK.

    But the hypocrisy doesn't stop there, because new South Scotland MSP Laura Moodie owns all or part of TWO second homes. She declares: "I own a flat in Glasgow with a market value of between £100,001 and £150,000 which generates a gross rental income of between £5,001 and £10,000 per annum."

    A well-known Scottish commentator has predicted that Glasgow's schemes and estates are "about to explode" after a number of flashpoint incidents. On Tuesday afternoon, a large police presence was deployed in the Cranhill area as residents staged a protest outside a block of flats. Videos on social media showed officers escorting a number of people out of the building and into a police van.

    Multiple reports claimed one of the individuals was a foreign national linked to an alleged sex crime in the city. One man aged 32 was arrested in connection with the disorder. Last Friday, police were deployed in the Royston area after residents blocked roads as part of a protest following an alleged sexual assault. A 40-year-old man named Mohamed Raouf Mezahdi was arrested on suspicion of sexual offences. There was also an incident at a primary school in the neighbourhood that fuelled the community anger. "So a big hello to everyone who said I was a fantasist when I told you many estates are at breaking point. It's going to be a long summer.

    "So huge congratulations to all the state and third sector employees who have spent years on their high horse telling folk in deprived areas that they are scum if they oppose their community being destroyed. We let the stupid people act with impunity."

    A teacher who was stabbed in the head by a pupil with a large kitchen knife feared she would die, a court has heard.

    The boy, 16, followed Vicki Williams into a classroom at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire, and asked for help with his history work.

    Swansea Crown Court heard he then "lunged" at her with the knife, stabbed her in the head, and pushed her back into a chair.

    Williams told the jury she believed she was about to die, thinking: "I'm dying. I'm not going to see my daughter again."

    The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, denies attempted murder, wounding with intent and unlawful wounding, but previously admitted possessing a knife.

    Schoolgirls in a Scottish town have reportedly been issued with rape alarms by police following allegations that asylum seekers staying at a local migrant hotel were photographing them during school breaks.

    The Express understands officers in Dumfries distributed the personal attack alarms to two teenage girls after reports emerged that men accommodated at the Mercure hotel had been behaving suspiciously near the school. A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed enquiries had been conductedA mother whose daughter attends the school told reporters that girls are now too frightened to walk through the town centre at lunchtime, with groups of men from the hotel congregating outside as pupils leave for their break. but stated no offences were discovered to have taken place. She is reported to have said: "Every single day these guys turn up just as the school is about to break for lunch and hang around just to perv on the kids. "Some of the girls have stopped going into the town as they feel so unsafe. There have been suggestions that the men have made crude comments to some of the kids.", reports the Express. "The police need to get a grip on this and start patrolling the town during these times, but they don't. "We cannot get to a position where the answer to this issue is to give schoolgirls rape alarms and hope they don't get attacked." The Scottish Sun reported its journalist witnessed approximately 15 men standing in the main shopping street during the school lunch period, their attention focused on the pupils in the vicinity. The instant lessons recommenced and pupils returned indoors, the group scattered - only for another set to materialise once the school day concluded.

    Labour wants to censor social media during general elections Lucy Powell is seeking to impose legal duties on online platforms similar to impartiality rules for broadcasters

    If you have to insist your plans are not about suppressing free speech or censoring political debate, they probably are. Lucy Powell, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and a close ally of Prime Minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham, wants to use the Representation of the People Bill to impose legal duties on online platforms similar to the impartiality rules that apply to broadcasters.

    Powell argues that, in an age when most people get their news from social media, users should have access to reliable sources so they can make informed decisions at the ballot box. How convenient, then, that the Government is also proposing to require social media companies to prioritise what it considers to be "trustworthy" news sources. The Free Speech Union has already identified the Representation of the People Bill as legislation of significant concern. Taken together, these proposals raise important questions about the future regulation of online political debate.

    https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/scottish-news/jk-rowling-blasts-john-swinney-37390762

    The secretive Scottish Government finally admitted to us that it was Mr Swinney himself who green lit the doomed defence to the court case brought by For Women Scotland. Responding to the story, the Harry Potter author said on social media: "Scottish taxpayers, against the vast majority's will, funded an attempt by the government to keep men in women's prisons. Never have I been so tempted to move to Monaco and give all the money I've been paying in tax to groups fighting the rank misogyny of Swinney's government." She added: "I think the fact that the First Minister personally signed off on wasting taxpayer money on an attempt to keep men in women's prisons is noteworthy. Hubris and misogyny combined." It came after the same campaign group won a landmark victory over SNP Ministers at the UK Supreme Court last year, with judges ruling the definition of sex in equality law related to biological sex and not acquired gender.

    This confirmed that trans women didn't have a legal right to access single-sex spaces, such as changing rooms, sports teams and jails. However, the Scottish Prison Service said it intended to keep its previous policy on trans prisoners, sparking the judicial review from FWS. In response to the Express exclusive, gender critical campaigner Susan Dalgety said: "The fact that Swinney went to court to fight for men’s demands instead of protecting women's rights says everything." Meanwhile, a Scottish prison monitor, has spoken anonymously to the Frontline Women Substack about her experiences in the female prison estate. She said: "Every day I met women with histories of domestic abuse, sexual violence, addiction, self-harm, mental illness and childhood trauma. "Women separated from their children. Women trying to parent children now in foster care. Women who had attempted suicide. Women whose lives would fill entire social work files before they ever reached a prison gate.

    If you want to know what makes Burnham’s new Svengali tick, forget the nearly two years he served as CEO of a global consultancy firm. Instead, look at what he did during his stint as one of the BBC’s top executives between 2013 and 2020, as both director of strategy and director of radio and education, when he championed the worst excesses of the diversity and inclusion agenda. The climax of this stint was the publication in 2018 of an extraordinary report, ‘LGBT Culture and Progression’. It set out a detailed plan to transform the corporation and to force it to comply with the diktats of the LGBTQ+ lobby. Purnell oversaw the report and wrote the foreword. He applauded its recommendations, which he openly acknowledged were written with ‘support from Stonewall’. What could possibly go wrong? The goal of this madcap project, believe it or not, was to stamp out ‘heteronormativity’ at the BBC. Apparently, it was a problem that the national broadcaster assumed heterosexuality is the default setting of human sexual orientation – even though it is. Where did Purnell imagine the BBC’s viewers came from? In his foreword, Purnell argued ‘an organisation that appears to have a heteronormative culture’ would fail to attract 18- to 24-year-olds. What he failed to realise was that coming over all kinky and queer wouldn’t attract young people to the BBC either.

    With the blessing of Purnell, the demands of this tiny, unrepresentative bunch ricocheted through the BBC’s editorial output. One of the demands, for example, was for LGBT characters to feature more frequently and prominently in shows. If you want to complain about the endless succession of drag queens on your TV screen, Andy Burnham’s new chief of staff is your man. Another demand was that staff should use preferred pronouns. This was taken by journalists as an instruction to respect the delusions of any crossdresser – even in news reports. Male rapists who claimed to be female would now routinely be referred to as ‘she / her’ by the BBC. If you thought the age of the left imposing its fringe cultural obsessions on society might be coming to an end, then think again. Burnham’s most important hire is one of the worst kinds of cultural warriors.

    https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-15953295/transgender-burlesque-dancer-shaping-future-Girl-Guides-zealot.html

    Dancing on stage in knee-high boots, PVC underwear and posing provocatively with a riding crop, Paula Southin, a transgender activist, performs an erotic routine using the stage name Violette Hue in a lewd online video. The Mail on Sunday can reveal that Southin, who was born a man, is also a former Girl Guide leader and member of a key committee tasked with helping shape the future of the 116-year-old movement. Astonishingly, the 58-year-old amateur burlesque performer was one of at least four trans activists who were asked by Girlguiding – previously The Girl Guides Association – to explore opportunities for trans girls and trans women to be 'supported' by the organisation.

    This newspaper can reveal how:

    Southin was handed the crucial advisory role despite lambasting Girlguiding's ban on transgender girls, saying that it 'sickens me to the core';

    Gemma Benton, Girlguiding's 'head of girl experience', posted a picture on Facebook of a dog with a label which read 'I bite terfs' – a derogatory reference to feminists with traditional views about biological sex;

    An activist group called Guiders Against Trans Exclusion (Gate) is trying to overturn the trans ban;

    Insiders claim that staff at Girlguiding's London headquarters who dispute trans rights dogma feel unable to speak openly for fear of harming their careers.

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/viewpoint/26247369.edinburgh-council-trans-rights-gaza-activists-took/

    The latest example was a Green Party motion to the most recent meeting of Edinburgh Council, which in essence wanted the guidance issued by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on protected single sex spaces and services ripped up, despite a clear majority of the public opposing the right of transgender people to use whatever facilities they choose. Deputations from trans activists claimed the Supreme Court decision that the legal definition of a woman under the Equalities Act “is limited to biological women and does not include trans women with a gender recognition certificate”, was not just a breach of human rights, but “trampled over” them. The motion passed with enthusiastic support from the Greens and LibDems, acquiescing in ludicrous claims that the Supreme Court and the EHRC were responsible for the “genocide” of transpeople. Those who disagree are “far-right bigots” and “sneering bullies”, according to a particularly aggressive activist called Zoe – how many of those comfortable middle class LibDem supporters in Murrayfield realise this is what they are voting for ? A Conservative amendment which said it was bad governance to condemn detailed guidance on the basis of one councillor’s motion was heavily defeated, but at least they refused to be bullied by the hectoring.

    There is rarely an over-supply of common sense amongst Edinburgh councillors, in inverse proportion to the relish with which they embrace, or are captured by, the pet causes of pressure groups, but in fairness they are only following the example set by the Scottish Government. As well as remaining in a thrall to trans activism, the SNP has failed to reassess the wisdom of making it easier for Glasgow drug addicts to pump more poison into their veins rather than finding ways to break their dependency, and now Edinburgh Council wants a drug consumption room of its own. Just like the debate on trans rights, at the same meeting there was a lot of sneering at the Conservative group for the crime of taking the common sense view that as the Glasgow pilot scheme was not completed it was too early to press ahead. The moral certainty, once again from nauseatingly sarcastic and sanctimonious LibDem councillors in particular, was quite something, especially as there is little evidence to show that these facilities reduce drug deaths, as opposed to treating overdoses on the premises.
