Police have launched a manhunt for seven men believed to be Asian after a woman was sexually assaulted outside a restaurant.

A 25-year-old woman was leaving Bazaar Restaurant in Captain Cook Square, Middlesbrough, when five to seven men made comments to her.

The group of men then surrounded her before she was sexually assaulted by one of them on December 13, 2025.

All of them, aged between 17 and 23 and wearing dark clothing, then left heading in an unknown direction while the woman went back inside the restaurant.

Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred between 7.30pm and 8.00pm that evening.

Cleveland Police has shared a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak with, who may have information that would help with their probe.

Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, has said that millions of women and girls in Afghanistan are facing severe restrictions on access to their basic rights, including education, employment, security, and freedom of movement.

Mohammed wrote on Sunday, January 4, on X that the world must not remain indifferent to these violations of the rights of women and girls, and that effective measures must be taken to support them.

She stressed that women’s rights are an inseparable part of human rights and must be respected and protected everywhere.

This comes as women and girls in Afghanistan have been deprived of their most fundamental rights since the Taliban returned to power.

Authorities in Iraq have arrested 17 people after a video of men pushing a screaming woman into a car during New Year's Eve celebrations sparked widespread condemnation in the conservative country. Violence against women, including through so-called "honour killings", has long plagued Iraq's deeply patriarchal society, though there are no official statistics available.

The New Year's Eve video, which has gone viral on social media, shows dozens of men jostling a screaming woman before lifting her up as people gathered outside. Authorities said the footage was shot in the southern city of Basra. Patient safety and evidence-based care must be the priority for the NHS regarding medical interventions for children. The PATHWAYS puberty blocker trial is not a prioritisation of patient safety as it lacks an evidence base.

Developing the evidence base should be the priority before a trial on a new cohort of children is even considered.

The Cass Review should not be used as justification to run a trial of puberty blockers. This was only one Recommendation of 32 Recommendations in total. To go forward with this one Recommendation while ignoring others that are crucial to put in place first, is using the Cass Review to implement an agenda, not following it to ensure patient safety and evidence-based treatment.

Data obtained by the Telegraph showed that 3,490 women were referred for ‘masculinising chest surgery’ on the NHS between 2021 and 2023, and that the number has risen slightly each year, from 1,089 in 2021 to 1,164 in 2022 and 1,237 in 2023.

Over three years, more than 780 women were referred for ‘masculinising genital gender reassignment surgery’, an experimental surgery with poor results and commonly-experienced complications.

The Telegraph report tells us ‘As many as 80 per cent of people using those services are females between the ages of 17 and 25’, which aligns with the figure reported by the Cass Review that referrals were ‘70-80 per cent birth-registered females under the age of 25’.

More than 6,000 Scottish school pupils have not attended school in the past six years, according to new figures. And over 70,000 have missed more than half of school since 2019, figures obtained by the Scottish Conservatives show. The Tories said the data was “deeply alarming” and indicated the SNP’s “desperate failure in education”. The figures showed that 73,184 pupils had an attendance rate of below 50%, while a further 6,270 pupils had no attendance between 2019/20 and 2024/25. The total is likely to be higher as some of the attendance data was incomplete. The Church of England has ordered a parish to rip out new gas boilers because they are not “sustainable”.

Christ Church Chineham, in Basingstoke, Hants, spent £18,200 last year replacing two failing gas boilers, with the new ones expected to last for at least two decades.

But the parish will now be forced to remove the system and pay for an eco-friendly replacement after a church court ruled it had not “adequately explored more sustainable options” before installing them.

Scotland’s largest teaching union is developing a new resource aimed at tackling misogyny in schools.

The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) has created a programme titled Many Good Men: Changing The Story About Online Misogyny, which includes a pack for teachers alongside classroom-based activities.

The materials are based on participatory theatre projects run by Civic Digits, a group which explores issues including misogyny, mental health and masculinity.

The union said the use of fictional characters in the scenarios will help young people in late secondary school and college settings to engage with difficult and sensitive topics.

The Scottish Government has welcomed the initiative, stating there is no place for misogyny in schools.

Research in the US by the social scientists George Borjas and Nate Breznau found that less than 8 per cent of those working in the migration field believe in a toughening of immigration laws, with 72 per cent favouring a relaxation. These ideological predispositions have a direct impact on modelling choices that are made and the conclusions that are eventually put forward.

Questions have been raised over who funded a new £2m Glasgow headquarters for an Islamic organisation who has been accused of being a 'front' for the Iranian regime. Scottish taxpayers forked out more than £400,000 in the past decade to the Ahl al-Bait Society Scotland, to promote "interreligious dialogue" and represent the Arabic Muslim community. The SNP Government provided a series of grants to the body to help Muslims in Scotland "reduce carbon emissions in the areas of energy, waste and food" and to encourage "upcycling, food growing, sustainable cookery and interactive climate change educational workshops".

Last year, the Times, revealed that the organisation held a vigil for Iran's late president Ebrahim Raisi, known as the ' Butcher of Tehran' and other high-ranking officials from the regime after they died in a helicopter crash in 2024. It reported how footage inside the society at its old premises in Glasgow's West End showed banners mourning the loss of their leader, despite being condemned and accused of crimes against humanity for ordering the execution of political prisoners.

Cops investigated 14 children aged 12, 29 aged 13 and 47 aged 14 before referring them to the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA). It revealed in the last 18 months a total of 146 children were reported for sexual crimes to the SCRA. The figures also showed that 415 under 18s were dealt with for sex crimes including rape in the past three years. The Sunday Mail obtained the data following a freedom of information request which revealed since 2022 the majority of children were between the ages of 12 and 17 and from 2020-2022, there were four children aged 10 referred to the SCRA.

Scottish Tory spokesperson on victims and community safety Sharon Dowey told the paper: "It's appalling and terrifying to think that children so young are committing such serious sexual offences in Scotland. "These figures underline the need for greater education of our young people but also the dangers of the SNP's soft-touch justice system in creating a climate where dangerous gangs are recruiting children into a life of crime." Scottish Labour justice spokesperson Pauline McNeill MSP added: "These figures are extremely concerning, and it is clear that things are heading in the wrong direction in Scotland. "Sexual violence and domestic abuse have persistently increased across the country, with reports across sectors like education, health, and transport, of growing instances of misogynistic abuse. In the last decade, incidences of sexual crime have risen by 45% from 10,273 to 14,892, with a staggering 60 per cent increase in rape and attempted rape during that time.
