    West Midlands Police are investigating after a man in his 60s was stabbed in Birmingham last night. Police was called to St Saviours Road in Alum Rock, at around 11.55pm on Tuesday, July 7. Police said: "It's believed he had been attacked by a number of men, who were described as Asian and wearing masks. He remains in hospital today."

    West Midlands Police's investigation is at an early stage, and officers remain at the scene carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries, and speaking to people in the area. This comes after a police cordon was put in place and reports during the early hours of this morning of a substantial emergency service response, including several police vehicles and ambulances that were spotted at the scene by local residents.

      @HebrideanHecate I'm scared to look at the news most days.

      At least Harry lost his court case. If he'd won, it would have had a far-reaching effect on the freedom of the press.

      @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain https://www.spiked-online.com/2026/07/07/prince-harrys-loss-is-a-victory-for-free-speech/

      Those he was close to would never leak stories about him, the prince told the court, even though he had previously accused friends of doing exactly that – and text messages showed he knew that this was happening. Harry also claimed he had cut off all contact with a woman when he found out she was a journalist, despite Facebook messages revealing this was absolutely not the case. He would not share information about his love life with strangers, he insisted, only for this to be disproved by his own tell-all, 400-page autobiography. He may be a spoilt brat, but let’s not forget that Harry was encouraged to engage in this expensive, time-wasting litigation by a coterie of lawyers, luvvies and a former Lib Dem MP associated with Hacked Off, a campaign group founded by Hugh Grant, to curtail press freedom. In delivering today’s ruling, the judge went so far as to brand Hacked Off adviser Dr Evan Harris as ‘dishonest’ for a plan he cooked up to hide the fact that one of the cases put before the court was beyond the statute of limitations. ‘At root, that proposal involved a deception’, the judge declared. Damning indeed.

      @HebrideanHecate @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain Either we want a free press or we want a state regulated propaganda outlet.
      Unfortunately what we now have is a press owned by wannabe politicians who use it as a soft power to nudge our thinking and shape our opinions. They have shown that they have the power to make and break people; a darling one day and public enemy the next. And they have shown that they work for the Ministry of Truth when it suits them. This is why I no longer give any of them my eyeballs or money.
      If we really want a free press then that includes what is in the public interest and what interests the public. They are not always the same thing. Those who court the press should not be surprised when they come calling to observe them at their worst as well as the carefully curated press conferences. And it should be all about investigative journalism where it holds businesses and the state to account. If that also includes abject nonsense, the kiss and tell sex secrets of the B listers, tits, bingo and a variety of opinion pieces signalling virtue and tub-thumping then so be it. My only caveat would be to prevent intrusive practices such as photographing/involving children or people related to but not connected with a story. Other issues such as trespass or libel are already covered.
      We all know where we are with the outlets because they pander to their readers and viewers. If they weren't popular then market forces would see them off. We should be under no obligation to bankroll them other than through voluntary consumption. Any other interference is unnecessary and unwelcome and would only be undertaken by the narcissistic and psychopathic control freaks we seem to have elected.
      I look forward to the first edition of UKs only newspaper Der Starmer (when we want your opinion we'll give it to you), its new authorised social media platform Newspeak (your only safe source of state-approved information) and its only TV channel BBC (we're here to inform, educated and entertain - don't question it!) any day soon.
