@feld @kde saying that this hard dependency is stupid is just your personal opinion and it's irrelevant to the corporate situation you described since the vast majority of distros run systemd. Having a company choose a non-systemd distro for their employees sounds extremely niche and unlikely, I work in cybersecurity, my colleagues and I run Windows 11, not anything specialized. If we were to use Linux, I bet it'd be Ubuntu or RHEL.

@feld @kde and how is not using systemd related to that?

@feld @kde so we're only 1% because we separate the desktop from the login manager?

@feld @kde yet they are on most Linux systems, they exist in the real world, unless you think we all live in a simulation.

@feld @kde that's not Plasma Desktop and you can use a different login manager anyway.

All Flatpak apps should do this and never use the run 1000 garbo ever again.

Unrelated to the ARM stuff but still relevant if you use Astra through Flatpak: If you pointed it to a custom folder we would display Flatpak-garbo (aka /run/user/1000/blahblah) but I learned *right now* we can display it better and will now do so in the next release :neocat_science: https://flatpak.github.io/xdg-desktop-portal/docs/doc-org.freedesktop.portal.Documents.html#org-freedesktop-portal-documents-gethostpaths (ignore D-Bus, but this details the name of the file attribute)

@wafflesies this is great but could also lead to a situation where certain software or services could refuse to operate just because your age can't be verified, like how certain banking apps refuse to work on GrapheneOS or LineageOS because they can't pass Google's attestation.

@wafflesies rightfully so honestly, let this be a lesson for the dumb systemd/Wayland/Flatpak haters (not the legitimate users of the alternatives, which should put in their part in calling out the dumb haters as they're doing a disservice to everyone.)

People like to call artix just a protest distro not a real distro
Flatpak next is going to supposedly only support Wayland and systemd
Having access to the aur will put artix far above any "real" distro and make it the de facto choice for a systemdless distribution other than maybe gentoo
It will also likely make distros like chimera alpine and void musl somewhat unusable because they depend on flatpak to work around musl libc for proprietary applications

    > Flatpak next is going to supposedly only support Wayland and systemd

Brodie the YouTube talking head convinced me that we were all lied to. No actual hard dependency on systemd or Wayland is happening.

@haeckerfelix @nclm every time I see a new Mac user who has just installed some apps, they leave every single DMG mounted and they don't even shut down their computer as they're all Macbook users who would rather close the lid into standby every single time.

It's obvious to tech-savvy/experienced macOS users, but I'm surprised that this is still the default way to install stuff after all this time, and that Apple has not come up with something better.

Sorry, but the macOS App Store is a joke.
