@irononsc youtuber Peri Fractic bought the rights to the Commodore name a while back to revive the company and made an FPGA-based revival of the C64 dubbed "Ultimate". Now they're launching a flip phone.

I'm also perplexed about the device blocking social media, email, etc. It feels like a restriction to your freedom, at least on paper, since they claim Android app compatibility, so how can they restrict you from installing an niche web browser from an APK? I'd also argue email is an important communication tool, even more than WhatsApp, but that's debatable.

The FAQ also says they only allow "AI" apps that aren't trained on copyrighted work, but I doubt their slop images are free of that.

Since the bridge bot is still dogshit, I gotta specify I'm talking about the Commodore Callback.

The idea of a smart-dumb flip phone that doesn't spy on you is really cool and features like a high quality DAC and the LEDs are quite unique, but the high price and the abundance of "AI" slop images on the website killed the hype for me almost immediately. Feels somewhat insulting. The choice of OS (SailfishOS) is probably fine, even though they could have chosen a slightly more open option, but the UIs they showed are all different and likely "AI" slop too.

Didn't know #Flatpak apps can have internal updaters interacting with Flatpak directly so that they can update without the need for a graphical store like Discover or touching the command line. Handling things in Discover or the command line is probably more intuitive, but it's neat that apps can do this rather than trying to do their own thing only and possibly messing up files and introducing conflicts.

I often watch #Apple's #WWDC as they're always ridiculous, but this year's #WWDC26 was boring as hell. All they presented is:

1. "Fixed" liquid ass (like how Windows 7 "fixed" Vista) which is what *OS 26 should have been from the beginning
2. Extensive parental controls as a way to comply to bullshit age verification laws (parents never use parental controls anyway)
3. AI AI AI AI AI AI!!!!!!!!!!! (white label Gemini)

And the "AI" parts had awkwardly long pauses, probably just to fill in time.

This Telegram bridge bot is so ass. I have to always correct something: handles with incorrect at symbols, broken links, excessive line breaks... And it's half broken SSL site reeks of vibecoded shit. I had tried taking a different bot and hosting it on my own, but that has its problems as well.

@Bro666 @feld @kde systemd haters would rather make up weak reasons to hate systemd and projects that make use of it on social media rather than contributing non-systemd support themselves. This behavior is also a disservice to legitimate non-systemd users, as they all get portrayed as fools when they don't do anything wrong and risk losing support (e.g. Vovk saying he wanted to consider supporting non-systemd distros in Flatpak Next, but might not do it because of the rudeness of these haters).
