@FinalOverdrive My point is that producing a lot of code that does not make for good software development. Avoiding code as much as possible while automating and facilitating processes is our work.
Tooling that helps us write more code faster helps us optimize the unfortunate side-effect of our work, not our work.
- Code is not an asset. It is a liability that requires maintenance, auditing, etc.
- We accept the liability of code when it is a valuable tradeoff, where the benefit outweighs the cost, through reduced lead times, improved data quality, improved governance and controls, etc.
- The two important factors when resorting to writing code are: Write the right code – solve actual problems and solve them better, solve them in a way that is usable to affected people, etc; and write the code right – ensure that the code is efficient, maintainable, secure, adheres to standards and practices, etc. Enhance benefit, minimize liability.
In the context of all of the above, evaluate this statement:
- Generative AI code assistance allows us to write more code faster.
@strypey Yeah. I get people being upset that Dems didn't offer an alternative to the standard US line of unconditional support to Israel. But I don't get at all those claiming that the current choice would be *better*. There has been no signal in that direction, quite the opposite.
Just because the President Elect is an anti-semite doesn't mean he cares about Palestinians.

clackeTaylor said it was important not to rush the switch to non-alcoholic beverages. “It’s not realistic to transition to zero alcohol overnight. This requires a steady, phased approach where nothing changes for at least two decades,” he said, adding that he may need to make additional investments in beer consumption in the short term, to make sure no night out is worse off.
@TonyStark It will take decades to fix the shit another term will cause, rebuilding the civic and social foundations that will be wrecked, and that's if there are still people with the strength to rebuild them.
I am so sorry that your country is going through this. It hurts seeing it from all the way over here, I can't begin to imagine what it's like to be right there in it.
So a majority of electors has been called, and the result is that after one term's breather we're in for another four-year political fever dream where on any given day anything might happen.

@mpjgregoire@jmcrookston The post agrees with you. The statement "poverty won’t be eradicated for another 229 year" implies that poverty will eventually be eradicated, which implies that they extrapolated from a development where poverty is decreasing.
