FRIENDS I found an incredible (positive) take on tumblr!

So the thread starts with a bad take, which is "if you need porn/sex toys to orgasm, you've masturbated yourself into dysfunction". And of course, that's ridiculous, not least because a lot of people with vaginas can't orgasm without a vibrator like, from the get go. But then someone said this:

I did know the word "pussy" from a young age (there was an adult in my life who was very inappropriate in the language she chose, although not abusive towards me). So naturally I assumed that Octopussy was a pornographic film about a woman with eight vaginas.

I'm not sure how old I was, and I'm not sure I even knew the word "porn", but I definitely thought it was a sex thing.

One time, when I was a kid, my family was at Cici's Pizza, a terrible pizza buffet where there were several TVs playing a James Bond movie. I heard my mom say "Oh, it's Octopussy!" about the movie, and then I spent the rest of the time trying really hard not to look at the TVs, because I assumed Octopussy was porn.

Art is not a sport. The point is not to be impressive at something difficult. It's expression, it's a way to focus on yourself, it's a way to get feelings out, it's a way to get ideas across. There is no cheating.

There's evidence that artists have been projecting images to trace them for thousands of years. The earliest written description of the camera obscura, an early projection device, dates back to about 500 BCE. Leonardo Da Vinci and Johannes Vermeer both likely used projection as a drawing aid.

You don't have to tell anyone what your artistic process is, either, even if they pay for your art.

As long as you're not straight up plagiarising someone else's art, there is no cheating in art. You can take photographs and trace them. You can use a grid. If you're working digitally, you can colour pick from your reference if you want. It's fine.

@evan Sometimes, yeah. Even just going for a walk or sitting outside for a while and seeing the sky sometimes can help.

The most cringe thing you can do in your thirties and beyond is care whether young people think you're cool.*

*In a youth culture way, not in a being a good person way.

Young people: the bad news is that in time, your fashion sense, slang, etc will become cringe. The good news is that you won't care.
