BENNY JOHNSON (HOST): Mike, I've never called for lava to rain down from the heavens, but maybe upon Washington, D.C. Would you be that sweet red hot lava for us?
MIKE DAVIS (GUEST): I've never been called sweet, and you called me sweet ginger. So, I think I am, Ben. But during my three week reign of terror as Trump acting attorney general before I get chased out of town with my Trump pardon, I will rain hell on Washington, D.C. We've talked about this, Ben. I have five lists, ready to go and they're growing. List number one, we're gonna fire. We're gonna fire a lot of people in the executive branch, in the deep state. Number two, we're gonna indict. Raj Shah, Fox exec exposed in Dominion lawsuit, to lead House GOP comms
WRITTEN BY MATT GERTZ PUBLISHED 11/01/23 12:28 PM EDT
Raj Shah, a former Fox Corp. executive who urged the network to stave off far-right competitors by promoting Donald Trump’s election lies, has been chosen to lead the communications effort for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).
As a senior vice president at Fox, Shah reportedly “worked closely with Tucker Carlson’s team and was trusted by the prime-time hosts as a vigilant defender against critics.” Indeed, his duties reportedly included launching and overseeing an internal unit aimed at discrediting Media Matters and other Fox foils. In his new job, Shah will serve as Johnson’s chief spokesperson and “help run messaging for House Republicans,” Politico reported Tuesday.

ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR 7 influential accounts are warping Israel-Hamas news on X, researchers find
The University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public said that the most popular posts about the crisis revealed how news on the platform is “faster, more disorienting, and potentially more shaped by Musk himself.”

A handful of influential but unreliable accounts, some of which have been promoted by Elon Musk, are dominating the flow of news on X around the Israel-Hamas war and easily outpacing established mainstream news outlets, according to research published Friday by the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public.
Diplomats were locked in frantic talks on Sunday to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as an Israeli ground invasion appeared imminent.
At the same time, the United States was deploying a second aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean amid fears of a wider war.
Capturing these concerns on Sunday was António Guterres, the secretary general of the United Nations, who said, “We are on the verge of the abyss in the Middle East.”
Officials from the United States, Egypt and Middle Eastern countries sought to ease what Israeli officials have called the “siege” of Gaza, which has led to dire shortages of food, water, gasoline and other essentials in the blockaded territory.
So, just to clarify, we are talking about putting people in concentration camps here, right?
.... OK, just making sure.
DONALD TRUMP Trump vows to invoke a wartime law to deport suspected foreign gang members and drug dealers The former president also said he would expand his travel ban if elected to the White House for a second term.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that if re-elected, he would “immediately” invoke a federal law granting himself the unilateral power to detain and deport non-citizens in the United States who are older than 14 years old.
In remarks at a campaign stop, Trump pledged to use the Alien Enemies Act — part of the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 — to target suspected gang members, drug dealers and cartel members.
@georgetakei Much of the blame has to do with gerrymandered districting. As Dr. Cox Richardson pointed out in yesterday's blog post, many of these Republicans at the U.S. and state level can do and say whatever they like because they know they're safe. Their reelection is assured, leaving them free to cater to all the worst elements in our society and to the wealthy donor class. They are simply not accountable to the majority of state's voters. The fight has really come down to the judicial system, which is why many believe the battle for democracy will be won or lost in the courts.
Civil Discourse with Joyce Vance "Get a Great Effing Criminal Defense Lawyer"
Sometimes, you should take the advice, even if it was intended for someone else
JOYCE VANCE AUG 23, 2023
Count on Jeffrey Clark, the Trump-era Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division who wanted to be Attorney General, to file the strangest motion so far of any of Trump’s co-defendants in Georgia. Mark Meadows and at least one additional defendant, David Shafer, who was among the Georgia fake electors, want to have their cases moved from state court to federal court. But Clark takes the cake. https://open.substack.com/pub/joycevance/p/get-a-great-effing-criminal-defense?r=fyvv4&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
@georgetakei So, basically this whole thing is being driven by hate and bigotry.... OK.
U.S. NEWS Top librarian calls 'Marxist lesbian' tweet backlash 'regrettable'
GOP lawmakers in several states have called for defunding the American Library Association because of Emily Drabinski's identity and political beliefs.
Aug. 7, 2023, 6:00 AM EDT By Tyler Kingkade
LOS ANGELES — Emily Drabinski took over as president of the American Library Association in July with plans to tackle the pressing issues facing her profession, such as shoring up funding and fighting a record number of book ban attempts nationwide.
I ran across this ruling yesterday, it was in a link from an article about how it's very unlikely the court (as well as the jury at his trial) will consider that Trump's "sincere belief" that the 2020 election was stolen will protect or exonerate him. This defense was actually ruled on in one of the Jan6 rioter's cases. That defendant tried to argue he joined the crowd attacking congress because he believed the election had been stolen. The judge in that case wasn't having any of it, as you'll see in these screenshots from his ruling. I've included a link to the judge's ruling as well. https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:c1b95b92-4695-32c8-9d78-6e92994655b3
AS XITTER’S LAWYER STALLED DOJ, ELON MUSK MET WITH JIM JORDAN (TWICE!) AND KEVIN MCCARTHY
August 17, 2023/51 Comments/in 2020 Presidential Election, Hunter Biden, January 6 Insurrection /by emptywheel
Elon Musk has been eerily quiet about being held in contempt by Beryl Howell since the DC Circuit opinion was first released on August 9.
It’s not like him to pass up the opportunity to make an obnoxious comment.
Which is why I’m interested in what Musk was doing during the period when Xitter’s counsel was stalling on the DOJ request — including a visit to Kevin McCarthy on January 26.
DAILY TAKE Trump's Crimes Against Democracy Tower Way Above His 4 Indictments
There’s a deeper truth here: the Trump/MAGA faction of the GOP hasn't just committed electoral crimes -- they've declared war on democracy itself...
THOM HARTMANN AUG 17, 2023
While it may be satisfying to call Trump and his enablers “fascists,” there’s a deeper truth here, with which America must come to terms: the Trump/MAGA faction of the GOP has declared war on democracy itself.
Funded by rightwing billionaires who, themselves, view democracy as an inconvenient pain-in-the-ass and — when Democrats talk about them “paying their fair share” — an actual threat, these MAGA Republicans have also joined forces with wealthy international elements dedicated to ending democracy all around the world. https://hartmannreport.com/p/trumps-crimes-against-democracy-tower?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
