My God, FL Government. DeSantis approves extreme right wing group’s indoctrination videos for use in Florida schools. “It’s true we bring doctrines to children,”Prager told the conservative group Moms for Liberty at a conference in Philadelphia in July. “But what is bad about our indoctrination?” The video below (just one example) : (1) compares climate activists to Nazis (2) claims climate change is a natural cycle not caused by humans, and (3) that millions may freeze to death if we force the use of alternative energy sources that are (a) actually unsafe and (b) bad for the environment. It also overtly encourages activism to support the fossil fuel industry. Opinion>Ohio Republicans in Ohio are about to vote … to curtail the power of voting
Moira Donegan The sole question posed to voters in the special election is a direct attempt to stop the legalization of abortion through democratic means
Tue 8 Aug 2023 09.54 EDT
Technically, August special elections are supposed to be illegal in Ohio. Late last year, a Republican-backed bill passed the state house prohibiting most special elections in August, reasoning that timing an election in the dog days of late summer depressed turnout, and cost too much money. But those same Republicans changed their tune in May, when it became clear that abortion rights supporters in Ohio would be able to put a ballot measure to voters securing abortion rights in the state in the November 2023 election. Ohio has a six-week ban on the books, but it is currently blocked by a court, and abortion remains legal up to 22 weeks of pregnancy. The measure, if passed, would help keep it... https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/aug/08/republicans-ohio-vote-abortion-constitution
2024 | ROAD TRIP The ‘Shrinking Baptist Convention’ Is Doubling Down on the Culture Wars
The challenges facing the nation’s largest Protestant denomination mirror those facing the GOP — and both would rather stick to their guns than shift course.

NEW ORLEANS — No one could accuse the Baptists of excessive cheeriness. Or underplaying their challenges.
Civil Harassment In general, civil harassment is abuse, threats of abuse, stalking, sexual assault, or serious harassment by someone you have not dated and do NOT have a close family relationship with, like a neighbor, a roommate, or a friend (that you have never dated). It is also civil harassment if the abuse is from a family member that is not included in the list under domestic violence. So, for example, if the abuse is from an uncle or aunt, a niece or nephew, or a cousin, it is considered civil harassment and NOT domestic violence. The civil harassment laws say “harassment” is:
Unlawful violence, like assault or battery or stalking, OR A credible threat of violence, AND The violence or threats seriously scare, annoy, or harass someone and there is no valid reason for it. “Credible threat of violence” means intentionally saying...

The state’s policy of ‘Massive Resistance’ exemplifies the incendiary combination of race and education in the US

Not long after Patricia Turner and a handful of Black students desegregated Norview junior high school in Norfolk, Virginia, she realized a big difference between her new white school and her former Black school. That February of 1959, she didn’t have to wear a coat in class to stay warm, because Norview was heated.

the Freedom Caucus might be the most dangerous faction of the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party, because they genuinely do not give one infinitesimal shit about actual governing. they just want to set things on fire and watch them burn.
as dangerous as they are, they’re also entertaining as fuck, because they’re pretty much an incandescent shit-show of incompetent morons.
EXCLUSIVE ‘I just want to find 11,780 votes’: In extraordinary hour-long call, Trump pressures Georgia secretary of state to recalculate the vote in his favor
By Amy Gardner January 3, 2021 at 9:59 p.m. EST
President Trump urged fellow Republican Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state, to “find” enough votes to overturn his defeat in an extraordinary one-hour phone call Saturday that legal scholars described as a flagrant abuse of power and a potential criminal act.
The Washington Post obtained a recording of the conversation in which Trump alternately berated Raffensperger, tried to flatter him, begged him to act and threatened him with vague criminal consequences if the secretary of state refused to pursue his false claims, at one point warning that Raffensperger was taking “a big risk.”
@georgetakei The United States’ (U.S.) trove of top-secret intelligence is among the country’s most protected information. If this information falls into the wrong hands, it threatens national security and compromises the safety of the many spies and foreign citizens involved in gathering, protecting, and disseminating information. These consequences can be life-or death, and the stakes are particularly high for foreign citizens who serve as U.S. government informants. https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:4097e167-e604-38db-bb21-c3dc2c756999

The Importance of What Was Recovered at Mar-a-Lago In October 2021, almost a year prior to the Mar-a-Lago search, The New York Times reported that the C.I.A. had disclosed, within a top-secret C.I.A. cable, that an unusually high number of foreign citizens serving as U.S. government informants had been killed, arrested, or compromised by rival intelligence agencies. https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:4097e167-e604-38db-bb21-c3dc2c756999
@georgetakei "In making his ruling, the judge, Robert C.I. McBurney of Fulton County Superior Court, said the special grand jury raised concerns in its report 'that some witnesses may have lied under oath during their testimony.' But the eight-page ruling included few other revelations about the report, the contents of which have been carefully guarded, with the only physical copy in the possession of the district attorney’s office.
@georgetakei I know folks are gonna jump all over me for saying this but... when I watched it what I took that to mean he had just learned something about Silk, not that he didn't actually know her. After Silk's sniveling introduction, he basically learned she gives a great blowjob.
