Your built-in machine translation is always gonna be inferior to just copying the text to deepl or fucking google translate. You're just disorienting your user and making it harder for them to access the actual content of the site

My workflow if you implement machine translation:

Go to website
Read text
Try to ascertain whether it's machine translated
Go look for the option where I can turn it off
If that option doesn't exist, go to your house and cover it in toilet paper
If it does exist, finally turn it off
Finally read the content
If there's a bit I don't understand, right click and translate

Mastodon does this a lot better by placing a button (okay it looks like a link but it acts like a button, but that's a different issue) on a single post, and then it only translates that post

But this is still not great because it doesn't work a lot of the time and it takes the posting language at face value

my father in law recently told me that I'm not a member of the working class. I don't remember his exact argument, but it boiled down to I don't work in a factory or on a construction site, so I'm not a working person.

And that's nonsense. The work you do has nothing to do with your social class. The question is whether you make your living by working (selling your labor) or by owning things (real estate, money, stocks, etc.)

I doesn't matter whether you're a mechanic, a miner, an office worker, a journalist, a sex worker, a twitch streamer, whatever – if you are forced to sell your labor to make a living, then you're a member of the working class.
