One of the hardest and most valuable things you can do as a company is the following:

1. Have a fully up to date org chart
2. Have a diagram that is not the org chart that accurately reflects how work flows through the company
3. Have an up to date and accurate diagram and explanation of what the company does and how it does it (architecture, revenue funnels, business value streams, code-bases)

Scaling decision making is *impossible* without a shared context to build alignment off of.

What is there to say about @nova except that she was an absolute force, too large to ever be contained by this world? All the same, I do wish the world had tried a little harder to keep you in it, because I'm going to miss you terribly. The advice, the chats, the wild speculation about the meaning of life, the dinners, the everything you were.

@dahukanna the implementation detail starts to leak out really badly here. The underlying content isn't rewriteable, it's a stream. So the only way to migrate old content would be to send *all* of that data to every server, modified, and backdated, without having it show up in any feed because it's not "new" content.

Which is fine, actually. Some implementations might have issues with it, but I don't see any actual barriers, and I suspect mastodon would behave pretty normal with that, even

@dahukanna that said, the fact that this just isn't even attempted is indeed... Suboptimal. I agree with you there. There's a lot of small missing things floating around making mastodon a bit less user-friendly than it could be

All these people going on about AR as like "wow so amazing you can video chat people in an even dumber way than before"

and I'm just like

"fuck yeah, one step closer to having the quest HUD overlay from WoW in real life so I can actually have a todo task list that WORKS"

We don't need to build AGI or hack nukes to destroy humanity; we just need to generate more information, change, and evolution than we know how to handle. Chaos and entropy will take care of the rest.

I found this article today (thanks to @quinn posting it) and... I have a lot of feelings

Firstly, it enrages me; secondly, it excites me; thirdly, it's revelatory; fourthly, it's frightening.

Firstly... Fuck absolutely everything about closed source. Look at this. Look at this bullshit right here.

ONE thing gets leaked. ONE. Within the blink of an eye the industry is lit on fire, rebaptized in the fires of open source, and jumps *decades* worth of innovation.

Just imagine: How much good in this world that we have left behind to rot in the ashes of closed source; ponder the carcasses of ruined corporations and the gems buried within.

Disgusting. What wasted potential for humanity.

Secondly.

Look at it. This is so fucking shiny; look at what we're doing right now. The potential for this shit is absolutely incredible. Things that we thought would take millions of dollars and millions of hours are now able to run on a FUCKING TOASTER, trained in a single day, using commodity hardware.

I did not think I would see this before 2030. Truly and honestly. Wow.

The most exciting thing? Domain experts can build models for *themselves*. That's where true innovation lies. I love it

Thirdly.

I didn't expect Google to be this self aware; it's refreshing to see, and so disappointing that they can't simply be honest about it externally as well. I'd love to see this sort of candor and discussion as an open and thriving relationship between consumers and producers. It can't exist in capitalism, as it stands, but I want it all the same.

I also didn't expect *both* google and openAI to be completely reduced to ashes in weeks. The fragility of dominance is revelatory.

Fourth.

Now I can see why the higher ranking people in AI were so nervous. I can see why people have been calling for ceasefire in AI evolution. We're not ready for this.

Look at this fucking timeline. Look at it: March 3 to April 15. We go from "Meta got their shit leaked" to "people can make a new chatGPT in an hour using freely available materials for $100 in rented GPU costs"

This is what a singularity moment looks like, by the way. This is true exponential growth.

We. Are. Not. Ready.

We're not going to make an AGI, don't be ridiculous.

But we're (probably) less than 1-6 months away from:

- running a chatbot on your phone that's sophisticated enough to convince the average teenager to commit suicide.

- building form submission bots that cripple every NPO in the world

- destroying all forms of public address-based communication (like email)

- scamming *every* senior citizen out of their life's savings

I could continue, but I won't share the actually dangerous ideas

Probably the biggest one is that organic discovery is extremely slow and different on mastodon. It just genuinely doesn't scale the same way and it's much harder

The other really big one is that I can literally feel the difference between engagement hacking and a lack of engagement hacking. It's wild how I no longer open "the social media app" compulsively for the sake of opening it. (I do so for other reasons but mindless dopamine drips don't happen anymore)
