@otaviocc Yeah, it's never had Markdown support, but I'm halfway finished with a new integration for both status.lol and some.pics that will handle the conversion of Markdown to HTML and post the HTML. Hopefully won't be too much longer before that's live.
Elon Musk owns X. Solely. There is no board of directors; there is no higher governance structure. X *is* Elon Musk.
When you "return to X", you're supporting Elon Musk, full stop. There's no way around it. When you post there, you're contributing to him. Directly.
So if you're not going into this with your eyes open, you're fooling yourself. But if you *are* going into it with your eyes open, you are the problem.
Leaving Twitter was always the right move. Returning to X when the things that made you leave Twitter in the first place are all still present (and actively thriving) is nothing short of complicity.
Huge shout out to Article 50 of the EU AI Act for giving us front-row seats to the absolute meltdowns that tech bloggers and pundits are having over losing the ability to secretly pass off other people’s work as their own.
Just waiting for OpenAI’s implementation so we can see the Altman stans proceed to lose their minds over this, too.
September is just around the corner, which means it’s time for another @robb × omg.lol month of giving! 🥰
We’re back for our 4th year of raising money to help kids and their families who are fighting cancer. More details to come, but you can expect another month of fun ways to support this important cause. And as always, I’ll be donating 50% of everything that omg.lol earns for the month.
If you’ve been putting off learning HTML, today is a great day to dive in. Just pull up @bw’s wonderful HTML for People and you’ll be building websites in no time at all.
Still working on some more resources related to alt text, but here’s a little tool you can use to see how your media posts appear to people using assistive technology:
Try running it on your own account and see how things come out. Do you feel like your alt text is offering a good experience? If that’s the entirety of how someone saw your images, do you think they’d walk away with the right information?
@dnkrupinski So anyway, hats off to Fastmail for taking steps to offer more choice in how email data is handled. It’s not going to satisfy everyone, but I’m a fan of progress!
@dalias Some people who use this stuff are pushy, yes. Others are quiet. Some are using it for personal empowerment; others as an accessibility tool. I personally hate the stuff, but the way I feel about it doesn’t nullify someone else's genuine benefit. And perhaps the most important point is that there’s nothing good that comes from shaming someone for using something that genuinely helps them, no matter how much it might bother me on a personal level. Life is too short to make someone feel guilty just for trying to get by.
@dalias Yeah, I would never suggest that we put politics aside, and nazis should always be punched in the gooch. I'm just illustrating how in any given space, we're surrounded by people who hold different opinions and values, and not every difference is necessarily worth obsessing over.
@dalias Did I say anything about voting for a specific candidate, or extermination of anyone? You sure jumped to an interesting conclusion there, and I think it reveals a lot. Best of luck to you in your future reply-guy endeavors. 👋
Hey, it’s Adam! I build https://omg.lol, https://dns.kitchen, https://neatstats.net, and more. I’m a Pokémon collector, Famicom player, and all-around nerd. Let’s be friends! #noai #nobot
