@mekkaokereke would love to understand what happened in that jury room, as they hung on manslaughter, got that dismissed, and then acquitted on the lesser charge anyway. (I guess jury nullification isn't as rare as I thought.)

I know, I know -- racism! But the killing happened in front of witnesses, on video. Did jurors come out and say "he was black so I'm voting to acquit"? I just don't see how else you get there in a case as open-and-shut as this one.

@dalias @khm @gleick you can get a debris cascade, so it would be gradually and then all at once, exactly the type of problem humans are calibrated to avoid solving until it's too late :/

@dalias @gleick we really do need GPS and satellite communications relays for modern society to function without serious redesign (which we could do, yes, but it would be quite traumatic)

@inthehands @Impossible_PhD I continue to be confused when people put Thune up as an anti-Trump bulwark. But admittedly I don't know much about him. Is there some evidence? The lowest-effort source for me to dig up is the 538 Trump alignment tracker, which shows Thune voting "with Trump" a whopping 91.4% of the time. That's *more* than Scott (84.1%). So...
